Unusual 1959 Topps Bob Friend

I was filling an order recently and when packaging this card I was struck by how thin the cardboard stock was. Almost like paper; certainly not as thick as the (many) other '59s I have. Another thing was the card was very off center. I was tempted to refund the buyer's money on it but figured that maybe he identified something good and got a good deal. I didn't want to look like I was renegging. Now that the transaction is complete... does anybody know anything about paper-thin '59s? I'm very curious. Thank you in advance... JB

No I am not familiar with paper thin 59s. Do you have a front/back scan? Aloha, Dave. ps interesting.

Paper Proofs

SCD has had articles on paper Topps proofs. I have a 4 panel of one from 1967 with Johnson, Maloney. McGlothlin and the Phils team card. But such proofs are blank backed. I can try to post a picture later, but you won't be able to tell much from it because it looks just like the regular cards

Side Scan

You know, later I am going to give that my very best effort just to see how it comes out

I do need to check back on the CU thread about all the different versions of the 89 Fleer Ripken card to see if that guy ever posted a scan of his Invisible Ripken

There were 1957 paper proofs that had finished backs; there was a thread here on them (see below). I think there was a paper proof stage for every year in the standard size era, your Friend could be one of them.

I blogged on the 57 paper proofs too and it links to the thread here: http://toppsarchives.blogspot.com/20...-positive.html
