Miller Huggins was no giant...
This photo is from cnn.com. Miller Huggins appears to be half the size of Babe and Lou!

Makes you remember how big Lou was! Guy was a jacked up man. Big as babe, but all country strong.
|
I read the same article. If I recall correctly, one of the last photos in the bunch is labeled "Babe Ruth 1950"... Didn't he die in '48??
|
great pic...Lou was a beast...look at those calves!!!!
|
Well...Lou was only 6 ft high but he weight 14 lb when he was born. I guess Huggins was just small :)
|
Baseball reference says that Huggins was 5'6'', Gehrig was 6'0" and Ruth 6'2".
But in that picture, Huggins looks like he's under 5'. |
baseball-reference.com has Huggins @ 5'6". Hard to believe he was THAT big from that photo..........

Wow
What an amazing shot and perspective. The difference between them is so marked, it almost looks like one of those professional wrestling match-ups...
It is not just the height, though. It is the total size. Miller Huggins is listed at 140 lbs., with Babe at 215 and Lou at 200. 50% bigger in weight... |

I realize a lot of players choked up due to the heavy bats of that era, but he looks like a middle schooler. His stats are impressive: 2-to-1 BB-K ratio, tons of AB's while he played, 23rd on managerial win list. He died of a disease (erysipelas) that would have been fixed by simple antibiotics now. |

Miller Huggins
Miller Huggins became Mgr. of the Yankees in the Fall of 1917. Initially, New Yorkers (and the Press) were very unhappy with Huggins,
who replaced their very popular Mgr. Wild Bill Donovan. By 1921-1923, Huggins won the favor of the NY fans with consecutive Championships. Huggins was more than just the Yankees Mgr., he served as the team's scout. When the opportunity arose, he wasted no time in persuading Jake Ruppert and Til Houston to acquire Babe Ruth (whose career Huggins had closely followed while Ruth was with Boston). The rest is history. http://i603.photobucket.com/albums/t...cpiesovsca.jpghttp://i603.photobucket.com/albums/t...ginsportlt.jpg http://i603.photobucket.com/albums/t...cpiesovscb.jpghttp://i603.photobucket.com/albums/t...ginsportbk.jpg http://i603.photobucket.com/albums/t...ponhuggins.jpghttp://i603.photobucket.com/albums/t...onhugginsb.jpg http://i603.photobucket.com/albums/t...pinkorange.jpg http://i603.photobucket.com/albums/t...pinkorange.jpg TED Z |
