Autograph Crime Does Not Pay

It seems that bad guys are getting caught with more frequency by law enforcement. An autograph forger/ebay scammer gets a long time with Bubba.

Too bad the Joplin tornado didn't hit just his house.

I can see that PayPal buyer's protection works real well...

"According to prosecutors, Shryock defrauded his victims out of almost $175,000. eBay and PayPal lost $2,512 as the result of reimbursing customers for claims regarding fraudulent transactions and failure to provide merchandise."

FWIW, the eBay/Paypal loss could be the fees/commissions that they would have made if the transactions hadn't been reversed. The percentages are about right.

Paypal buyer protection worked very well for me in the one instance I had to use it. Took a bit of time and some effort on my end but I did get a complete refund of my payment to a scammer.

From personal experience, as both a buyer and seller for a number of years, the Buyer Protection coverage works very well for the buyer, whether it's an honest claim or not. The Seller Protection coverage, not so much. Bias in eBay claims is strongly weighted in the buyer's favor 99% of the time.

Great story. I wish they'd would specify the ebay seller names. Naming him does 't do much to inform potential victims considering he sold under other people's or fake names.

Would have been interesting to know what his Ebay IDs were and some examples of his forgeries. Regradless, nice to see another forger bite the dust:D
