T206 Ghosts... on the front!
Loving my new pick up... I only know of 3 T206's that have an example of a front ghost with a different player than who is pictured on the card....
Thought I would see if anyone else out there was aware of any more... Any info on these cards is apreciated. Please show your T206 Front ghosts if you have one tucked away.... My example has an upside down Furguson ghost on top of the Moriarty.... http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/g.../furguson1.jpg http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/g...frontghost.jpg Jamie |

Nicely done Jamie! Now I need to find one :)
|
Rob... that is one great card! Thanks for showing it.
Johnny.... your Bender is one of my favorites. Do you remember the days when we took our money and spent it on items not made of cardboard?.. you know you have it bad when your at the gas station thinking instead of filling up my tank.. I could get a t206 with a name at the top and bottom! Maybe even 2 different names...I guess Ill just push my car home.. its mostly downhill anyway :) well that makes all 3 that I mentioned in my 1st post are now shown... any unknowns floating out there??? would love to see them... Jamie |
Jamie, there are 10-15 other front ghost scraps of different players but most are not the black detail layer.
Not my cards http://i.imgur.com/BI9dR.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/XiNj5.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/0vj8J.jpg Triple ghost! http://i.imgur.com/Vhykz.jpg |
T206 ghosts
:mad:Those i missed on 19 th century!!! man and Rob's im DYING!!LOL
i passed on these cards back in the day, why, why , WHY!! Well, gotta spread the love.... THANKs jamie.....Bender is one of my favorites also... I have only seen a handful with the black outlines in the last 15 years... Would LOVE to see another... |
This new 'ghost image' craze has gotten ridiculous. There are at least two examples of t206's with bad registration currently on ebay, headlined as 'ghost' images. There is also one with a slight wet sheet transfer on the back that is advertised as a ghost.
Just my opinion - it's gettin kinda stoopid. |
haha - I meant to put that last post in the 'red Cobb' thread. It would have been more appropriate as the cards posted here are real examples of unusual cards, and are of course very interesting.
But I guess it's okay here, as long as none of the rag-pickers...I mean scrap-grabbers (like me) take offense :) |
|
T206 Ghosts....
Scott...
I totally agree.....drunken registers DO NOT COUNT AS GHOSTS:eek:..... I saw all three as soon as they were listed because i have no life and basically hawk ebay:o.....When i saw ghosts i got excited!! then to my dismay , i was dissapointed once again.... 14 years Quest for these things.....i have seen less than a handful like Jamie's, mine or Rob's(actual printed black outlines), rob why do u tease me???LOL;).....i'm sure there are a few more different examples tucked away, but everyone is super tight lipped, i know not every collector reads this board(not sure of the total picture, but it could be a good sample of the overall population of collectors, haybe 30 or so???Leon would know more)....the probabilities of them being out there are good, but depends if they got cast aside to the land of the misfits:eek:...or over the years truly thrown away... That's one of the reasons i collect these....one man's trash has truly become another man's treasure...they are not as many survivng examples as everyone is starting to realize(hell my matty y/b looks like it survived an apocalypse:))....there probably were tossed in the trash even after they were saved from the trash.....hell, even a few years ago they were cast aside, Thank God;), it was the only way i could afford them....as i passed up TONS AND TONS of "rare" backs, thats why when i saw a freak i had to pull the trigger, just more of a collector base/interest in the rarer backs, but i predict a swing towards these freaks.. Each card is a "snowflake"- hence my snowflake theory.......even the sister scraps off the same sheet have their own characteristics sometimes(like my 2 krugers)...These cards are true"one of a kinds " or very few...a whole unique set would be the ultimate imho.....imagine the monster as a true monster???:D I love rare backs, but they all look the same pretty much.....i like card where almost no-one can own another......becomes card envy:oLOL notice how these unique ones are referred to???:) THE "downey overprint" THE "bender ghost" and now the "fergie ghost"....try to find another, id love to see:D, my challange to any collector...if u do, send me a scan and i'll take out my check book:o These are the "chase " cards of yester-year.....if collectors scarf at them or put them down, they are just jealous because they don't own one;)... I'm kinda screwing myself by brining alot of the obvious to light, so in the future, all future error t206 collectors please have mercy on this poor soul and throw a card this way, or help a brother ;):D Peace... bash as you will.....;) |
I wonder how unique these are. Some, like the frontal red ghost I have, look like production cards - if that's the case, there should be at least a sheet's worth of cards with a red ghost offset one inch to the right. No telling what percentage survived, but such cards provide a huge hint as to what cards were printed on the same sheet - in my example, just look for red ghosts with the same offset to the right. Not definitive, but good circumstantial evidence.

Big thanks to SGC.... I was working today not to far away from their office... I walked in and was able to get this graded with the proper label.... I had a conference call in my car.. and went back in 1 hour later to pick this bad boy up.
http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/g...gusonGhost.jpg Thanks again SGC.. They could have kept me there all day but had me in and out within 1 hour... I really appreciated that! Jamie |

Paul,
I feel ya!.....me and you collect on the "fringe" i love you coined that....your collection btw is truly BAD ASS:cool: I always loved the autos but haven't picked up any, i love the fact you agree about my "snowflake theory" they definitely take on their own personality;) sux that i become so attached to mine:o |
Rockin' card Jamie.
Congrats! S |
My definitions:
I split printing errors and cutting errors. Printing errors Ghost: a wet sheet transfer where the ink from one sheet migrated to another leaving a mirror image of what is on the source sheet http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...ahn%20back.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...8%20Barnes.jpg Registration Error: a misprint where one or more ink passes was misaligned, resulting in an offset print. Varies in severity http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...e/T205%201.JPGhttp://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...sprint%201.jpghttp://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...20misprint.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...0misprints.jpg Missing Ink: self-explanatory http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...sprint%202.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...f%20Harris.jpg Wrong back/front or inverted back: where the sheet was facing the wrong way when one side or the other was printed. http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...0Buren%201.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...io%20error.jpg Misaligned front/back: where the sheet slipped when one side was printed and the result is the correct front/back combo but not aligned http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...h%20miscut.jpg Wrong partial print: where one or more ink passes was made with the wrong image, usually resulting from the sheet facing the wrong way for fewer than all of the ink passes http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...s%20Fields.jpg Misprint: anything that isn't covered above Cutting Errors The printing is OK on both sides of the card and they are aligned; the cutting was bad. Varies in degree from a nuisance to collectible--for me the latter begins where the image on the next card is visible http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...k%20miscut.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...z%20miscut.jpg Diamond cut: I see these mostly with Topps cards. where the card is a diamond shape http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...n%20miscut.jpg Scrap Stuff that does not appear to have made it through the end of the printing process or into the product http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...rs%20scrap.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...er%20freak.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...lavin-Hall.jpg |
Adam, you make some good points about what a 'ghost' is. I suppose we refer to all of the following as 'ghosts': wet sheet transfers, registration problems and printer scrap (such as the one that started this thread).

Starting to think I may have misread the thread title.
|
I think the T205 Sheckard isn't missing ink, but is slightly miscut showing the edge of one of the Newark cards at the left.

Not all "ghosts" appear to be wet sheet transfers but direct lithographic imprint during print testing similar to Jamie's Mori/Leon's Young or through a print error like Johnny's Gilbert.
|
Any more out there?
|
Looks like Exhibitman's T206 Barry and my Manning could have been printed at the same time:D

What do you guys think that Becker and Downey would bring at auction
|
Becker is a great card, a bit less dramatic then the Gilbert ghost, I'm thinking 3-4k.
Downey is an extremely nice example 3k-4500+ if the right buyer wants it. |
I think at auction that they would go probably higher than that.
|
Any more ghosts out there?
|
|
Very nice Scott is it for sale? Rob
