I have a signed 16 x 20 of Roy Campanella. Curious the boards thoughts on this signature.

I'd have to say...fake?!

GrayGhost 02-15-2012 08:37 AM

Not necessarily fake. That looks like one of those signatures from the signings where Roy used a device to aid him. I wouldn't want one of those tho. as they were signed mainly w a device, moreso than his hand.

Vintage Real pre accident signed photos aren't cheap

Thanks Scott didn't realize he used a device. I suppose it's tough to tell his post accident signature. Anybody else have any thoughts?

To me it looks like a good post accident signature. Nothing screams fake to me. But I'm no expert.

Can you post a pic of the entire photo? As a Campy collector I'd be interested in seeing it. :)

I want to restate something that I posted quite awhile ago. I'm not sure what Roy used in the early days to help him sign, but when I saw him in the late 80's, it wasn't so much a "device" as a brace so that his hand wouldn't shake. As you can see on his post accident sigs, the Roy looks pretty good but as he gets to mid Campanella it starts to get a little more rough due to the fact that brace doesn't allow the hand to move...try putting your wrist/palm on the table and try writing your name. Your fingers and hand are pivoting but they're stretching to be able to get the last part of the name...especially a longer name like Campanella. Anyway, I'm very happy with my post accident signature and very happy I got the chance to meet him and get it in person.

Thanks for the comparisons and explanation on his brace. Mike I think your post signature looks similar to mine.
