E120 Ghost on E121 Series of 80 Card
As I was going through some cards in my collection this last weekend, I came across this E121 Series of 80 card of W.L. Gardner (SGC 50) and I upon closer inspection noticed that the card has a ghost image on the reverse.

It's kind of hard to see in the scan but the coloration is from the E120 American League cards and I can make out some of the more ornate framework around the oval bottom. http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...pictureid=5970 Has anyone ever seen different issue ghosts before? |
can't recall that one

I can't recall seeing a card with a different card as a wet sheet transfer on it though I would be fairly sure more exist. Closest I have is a nice E126 with a wet sheet transfer of the same card on the blank back. It does have some wet sheet back transfer on the front near his name though. I guess this was a print freak as E126's were never issued with blank backs.

Some black inks can remain "wet" enough to transfer for a very long time. And this is probably true of other colors if the ink has the same base.
I own a stamp and what is now its partner where an offset transfer was left somewhat in excess of 100 years after printing. Steve B |
