What's the worst looking SGC 40/PSA 3 you've seen?
I only collect T206 and only in this grade. At this point, I'm just shy of 200 and periodically look through my (incomplete) set finding the flaws that caused them to grade at SGC 40 (3). I'm always looking to pick up cards in this grade, and generally speaking I think there is relative consistency in the grading of SGC 40 T206s. I also assume that the grading criteria for an SGC 40 and a PSA 3 should be fairly close if not identical.
Here's the worst looking SGC 40 I have (in my opinion). Every time I look at it, that bottom right corner crease bugs the hell out of me. And it's just as bad, if not worse on the reverse. I have others in this grade with creases, but they are all very light. This one sticks out undeniably. This one (again, in my opinion) is over graded. Show me the worst SGC 40 or PSA 3 you have. http://sgccardregistry.com/cards/us172224.jpg |

I owned this for a while before I sold it recently. Corners were much too rounded for VG, IMHO.

you guys are crazy...all these cards look like typical 3s to me (not high end but not that bad either). the young maybe a little dirty.

Psa 3?
I brought this topic up because I've seen a ton of ugly PSA3s on eBay lately. There was a horrific Wheat tonight in particular. Some crap (perhaps literally) on his chin and a crease. I wouldn't expect a VG card to have a heavy crease. Lord knows any time I submit one to SGC I get a 30 or worse.

Expectations
I expect a "3" to have rounded corners and/or a wrinkle or two... but not a big a$$ crease. Look at this PSA 3... I don't think I've seen a SGC 40 look that bad... so I want someone to show me...

For comparison, here is a PSA 2 (which was a crack out from an SGC 30/2). Worn corners, but crease free. 3's need sharper corners. They may have slight creases, but they should not go through the player (e.g., on edges or corners). That T206 with the strong crease through the middle is obviously a misgrade.

Here is my only 3 with a crease (lower left corner). I decided I liked the rest of the card enough that I could ignore it. It started life as a PSA-4. http://photos.imageevent.com/ltsgall...rke_bat_tn.jpg |
That 52 topps gil hodges sgc 70 is hands down the worst graded card i have vever seen. What the hell? That card looks like at best an sgc 30.....

One of the harder 649s to pickup so I couldn't be picky at the time but never agreed on the grade.

I could see that yellow Ruth in a VG (3) plastic holder. I'm not sure how much that would increase the value, but I assume it would be a significant amount. Unfortunately, if I owned it, I would submit it multiple times.

The Ruth is undergraded imho. Should be a 3.

Yikes!
Came across this gem tonight on ebay (it's a BIN if you want to hurry up and grab it!). Higher resolution images are available through Vendio in the listing. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1909-11-GAVV...ht_2247wt_1165 I would love to hear PSA's explanation for how that card was graded a 3. It's a mess! Unbelievable. Steve |
