1919 Minor League Pin?
Just picked up this pin and I am trying to determine if it's minor league related or not. The pin reads "B League Champions 1919 the Spokesman Review". Looks like the Spokesman Review is out of Spokane, WA and I'm thinking the "B League" is referring to the 1919 Northwest International League.

Randall, I would say that you are right on the mark there. Nice score.

From much greater authority than me, it's not the Northwest League, but a Spokane town ball pin. Max |
Max, I sent a link to this thread to I'm sure that same authority, but if you already got word from him that it's city league then that's what it is.

From www.baseball-reference.com, there was no Northwest League in 1919 1920 Pacific Coast International League B Spokane Indians 1918 Pacific Coast International League B Spokane Indians 1917 Northwestern League B Spokane Indians 1916 Northwestern League B Spokane Indians And sometimes in those days, the "1919" champion might have meant the team won in 1918. However, from Wikipedia, Spokane (and the PCIL itself) didn't do too well in 1918 1918 1918 Pacific Coast International League President: R.L. The league suspended operations July 7. |
Max, there was a Northwest International League in 1919, but Spokane wasn't in it. Doesn't matter anyway...I heard back from the authority as well and it's a city industrial league pin.

He's mostly infallible but I'm still waiting for the first slip ;):) |
It was worth a shot @ $20, the seller had it listed originally as The Sportsman Preview.

Great pick up Randall! I am going to the Central Washington University library today, I'll see if I can find a related article in the Spokesman Review circa Sep-Oct 1919, or at least who the league champions were. The Spokesman Review had a GREAT sports page for the day, very comprehensive.

I finally found some info on the 1919 Spokane City League from the Spokesman... The winner of the league pennant that year was United Clothes, they were 19-3 on September 1, and declared league champs September 5th. Could not find any articles directly indicating awards to players but their lineup on Sep 1, was;
Griffin,ss Barton, 2b Poff, rf Magee, 1b Kelsey, 3b McCutcheon, lf Malone, cf Daniels, c Leeper, p Here's a copy of Sep. 1, 1919 paper article is on page 5. Hope this helps. Once again, great find! http://news.google.com/newspapers?ni...rontpage&hl=en |
