Cards that might have been...
While looking through my 1964 Topps Giants set I realized for the first time that neither Maris nor Drysdale appear in the set and it got me to thinking of cards that would have looked good that the company's either never printed or players retired prior to reaching that particular year. I really would have loved to see a 1975 Topps mini Roberto Clemente that coming from the first set I collected as a kid. Anyone else with cards that they would have liked to have seen or might have been ?

The top 4 cards were made by Topps in 2011 as a part of their Lost Cards insert set. The '41 Goudey Musial and '69 Topps Simmons were custom made for me by a guy on the Coll. Universe board who also had made the '53 and '64 Topps earlier. The gentlemen from the Coll. Universe board (id: heritageaddict) also made the '52 Topps Musial card with the "cut auto" from my 3x5. |
More Cool Cards
These I printed off of a website of a guy who made some masterful looking "what if" cards. I wish I culd remember the site, there were a number of great looking cards there.

I do not have any already made up but it can be done, however it does not have any back design. I also do requests if I have a photo or if you can provide a photo. Private Message me a list of players, the teams and years and I'll see what I can do and let you know a price.

Damn Keith. Eck looks like somebody just stepped on his balls.
A '57 Topps combos card of "Indians Young Sluggers" with Colavito and Maris would've been awesome. |

Cool thread!
I put this together with Corel photopaint some time ago -- a 1971 Topps Greatest Moments Roberto Clemente card commemorating his 3,000th hit: http://img195.imageshack.us/img195/6704/71clemente.jpg Also, a collector has created an interesting blog about Cards That Never Were which recently featured this blog post about two of my favorite "guilty pleasures": Rush and baseball cards. Geddy Lee needed a baseball card! :cool: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7gKsjbZ3SE...+Geddy+Lee.jpg |
Love the 71 GM Clemente! Great Job

There is a 1973 Topps Staub
Cliff - Check out Tommie Agee's 1973 Topps card #420. Agee was traded after the picture. Everyone is airbrushed out of their Mets uniform. Picture was taken at Shea. Hey. Who is that guy to the right hustling in to back up the play? Yup.It Rusty.

^^ heh heh, nicely done! Looks every bit as good as the "arms at sides" version Wonka mocked up some time ago (that card was a proof). I like the way you recreated the lithograph pattern. What was your source photo?
Good stuff, Andy! |
[QUOTE=bobw;961636]Here's a 1973 Topps Phoebus I made a while back

My custom cards
Hi Guys,
Sorry for the late post to this thread, but I'm new to this forum (and enjoying it very much). I have been having fun by making custom cards like this for years and even had the honor of having a hobby legend like My. Lemke write about me in the January 2011 SCD. Anyways, here's a few examples with a link to my full on-line library of digital baseball card art: http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...pictureid=7668 http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...pictureid=7671 http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...pictureid=7670 http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...pictureid=7669 http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...pictureid=7672 http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...pictureid=7673 http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...pictureid=7674 http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...pictureid=7675 http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...pictureid=7676 http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...pictureid=7679 http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...pictureid=7682 http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...pictureid=7683 http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...pictureid=7684 http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...pictureid=7685 http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...pictureid=7686 http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...pictureid=7689 My online album: https://picasaweb.google.com/1137614...ardArtGallery# Mr. Lemke's article about me: http://www.sportscollectorsdigest.co...er-seen-before Mr. Lemke, if you read this - I love your 3 stooges All American card and it was the inspiration for my Abbott and Costello card! -TJ |
