Re-created Vintage cards

If you could have an artist re-create your favorite non-photo vintage cards, staying true to the original card design, who would it be? I have a set of R. Crumb's blues cards, where he Crumb-ized classic photos of blues musicians into trading cards.

I could see Crumb doing the '33 Goudeys, Neil Adams on Cracker Jacks, Matt Groening on E90-1, Dali on T3's.

Not sure about T206's, as they are the most perfect card ever designed.

the Helmar ones

The Helmar fantasy cards are done very nicely. If I had to pick an artist to do some mock up cards I can't imagine who I would want to go with more than our very own Graig Kreindler....He does some fantastic work.

N162 Anson because it already looks like a painting, but I do not know what artist to do it

I think Van Gogh did that one.

That's true, except they are fantasy cards, not re-creations of originals with a new artist's touch.

I think Graig could make incredible T206 copies from the original photos, but given his sense for realism, most would look almost exactly like the original card. Same for Goudeys. But I bet his CJ's would really stand out against the solid red background.

(For those unfamiliar, Hieronymus Bosch was a 15th century Dutch painter who made highly original, painstakingly detailed and often extremely disturbing religious paintings. Even today, his paintings remain original and unique in the art world. Due to his nightmarish images, for a long time people were unsure if he was Christian or a devil-worshiper, though it's more than probable that he was devoutly Christian with a eccentric personal vision.

His paintings were filled with often and obscure and personal symbols. The red clothed fish, the flying goose, the tree limb arms, the bird all mean symbolize things.)

David, those are really weird and very cool. Thanx for posting.

The other artist I mentioned, Francis Bacon and a 20th century Irishman, is comparable in their visceral nightmarishness to the 15th century Bosch. Below is his portrait of the Pope and of a dog.
