I was just thinking about this subject this week, trying to narrow down some sets by decade I may try to put together this coming year. *s are by those I won't be putting together but like the design.

1920s: W560 two-colors, because I have a couple.

1960s: 1964 (and 62) Auravision, cool photos, and its a record!
1970s: 1978, birth year and hosts many '84 Tigers' RCs.
1980s: 1984 Fleer, my first baseball cards. I like the 1980 Topps design.

1970 on... No particular favorite
1960's: 1963 Topps
1950's: 1956 Topps
1940's: 1940 Playball. Oddly, I don't much care for the 1941's which everyone else loves so much, but I adore this set. So far I'm about 25% through with it in PSA 6-7.
1930's: 1934 Goudey
1920's: 1926 Spalding Champions - out of my price range for the big cards, but I love the design and the photos. Plus all sorts of sports are represented.

Well you're just flat out wrong! Just kidding. I like the 40 PB set a lot as well. However, the inclusion of so many tribute cards, which I do not collect, has always dissuaded me from trying to build this set. That said, I have collected all of the "companion" cards to the 41 PB set, i.e. the cards that are photographic images of which the 41 PBs are artistic renderings.

Zach, I think during the '20s people were too worried about where they were going to get their next drink. Everything else went to hell.

Too bad the moonshine didn't bring out some creativity to make some better cards. Color was definately not on the agenda.
