Show baseball cards from a set you had started and have abandoned.
|
Too many to count...
-1921, 22, 23-24 Exhibits -E120 -V100 -1934, 35-36, and other Diamond Matchbooks -V122 -N172 (this one about 3-4 times) -etc. Sometimes I think a set would be right up my alley only to find out when I'm half-way there or so that it just doesn't do it for me. The N172's are just cost prohibitive more than anything else-- if I didn't have a wife, kids, and my $240K Student Loan debt I'd probably pursue them more vehemently :D |
more info , please
Several of us out here would like to know who lends $240K to guys who play with baseball cards ?:)

Being a set collector, I do not know what it is to quit a set. Have yet to do that!

Ok, I picked up a Yum-Yum and after that decided to abandon my attempt to collect all of them because I could sell every other card in my collection and maybe buy three more.... Oh yeah a pic... well I sold that Yum Yum because I couldn't afford to keep it because someone made a really generous offer for it... I suppose the person that bought it could post that scan...
I've been slowly completing a 1940 Play Ball set for the past 25 years. Every once in a while I pick up a card and come a little closer to getting that set done. It took me 15 years to compelete my first T201 set. I'm just not in a hurry to do those things. I pick stuff up as it comes along at reasonable prices. Doing that makes the hobby a bit more fun and challenging. |
I'm not a set collector. Sometimes I think I am and begin a set because I like the cards or issue that much. I once tried the 1918 Zeenuts (impossible) and P2 Sweet Cap Pins. I like both sets to the degree that one card won't satisfy and more than 5 is too much.
I've reconciled myself to the fact that I'm not a completist. I just don't need that satisfaction that comes from finishing a set. I'd much rather search out the next rare jewel and have the resources to pursue it. I try to hold onto a few of the better condition or ones that I like the most if I ever stall on a set. Evidenced by a couple of P2s below. http://i1023.photobucket.com/albums/...IMG_0002_2.jpghttp://i1023.photobucket.com/albums/...IMG_0002-3.jpg |

Once I had 20-30 Zeenuts I just kept broadening my Zeenut collection from at first just doing one or two sets, to then just up to 1919, then I got a group of 1922's and I included all up to the B/W era (1924 on), then I just said "screw it" and I'm collecting them all now... 1,800 Zeenuts later I'm only approaching half way (I am a real glutton for punishment!). |
I collect E 121 series of 80 and 120 and associated subsets associated with the 1921 World Series. This started out as a quest to collect all of the varieties of Elmer Miller cards I could. The Miller collection got corrupted into the e121 collection through a trade with a fellow net 54 member. The obsession is a little expensive due to the Ruth cards involved. Maybe some day I will win the lotto and buy all the E121 varieties of Ruth cards. Oops, I need to play the lotto to win first. My bad.

Doubt whether I'll continue with these sets

Nice Colgans, Jerry. Some real gems in there. Good thread as well.

"Show baseball cards from a set you had started and have abandoned."
I don't abandon sets, they just seem to elude me. |
Well I am a completionist...at this point I have 6 sets going and am contemplating starting a 7th...this doesnt include the t202 and t205 obseesion I went thru...or the 70% complete 59 topps set that stopped...or my upgrade project that never ends...or the 49 bowman set that abruptly started and then stopped...maybe its time to let one go?

34 Goudey
For me, 34 Goudey. Always liked the looks of these cards, the set isn't huge, only a few of budget buster cards, but about 10-15 cards in, it wasn't doing anything for me. I'll stick to my T206s (for now).

Being a type-card collector and a specific-player collector, fortunately (I guess) I don't have this "problem." :D
