RAW CARD collectors....show us some of your favorite cards
I will start this show with 24 (of the 50) cards in my 1888 GOODWIN CHAMPIONS (N162) set. The other 26 will be shown later.
It's my favorite set of a collection that I started in 1977, which includes complete sets from 1887 -- 1987 (99% ungraded). <img src="http://i603.photobucket.com/albums/tt113/zanted86/12starsN162bb.jpg" alt="[linked image]"> <img src="http://i603.photobucket.com/albums/tt113/zanted86/12starsN162boxbill.jpg" alt="[linked image]"> TED Z |

Happy hunting....I would suggest....also try for the three non-HOFer's....Anderson, Dunlap, and Glasscock (you will find them to be more affordable). <img src="http://i603.photobucket.com/albums/tt113/zanted86/n162keecarbrodunand.jpg" alt="[linked image]"> <img src="http://i529.photobucket.com/albums/dd339/tz1234zaz/aoldjudgeglassck.jpg" alt="[linked image]"> TED Z |

Zeenuts as embarrassing art
2 Attachment(s)
I thought for my post I would narrow things down to just my favorite raw goofy, awkward, unfortunate pose Zeenut cards.
The 1913 Leard captures the classic Tinkerbell cross handed bunting stance. The 1914 of Arbogast has that pained, disappointed look of having just been called out on strikes. Fisher is showboating for the camera, as all good catchers do. Brown in his 1916 card has a very elaborate hideaway pitching windup, which unfortunately seems to come at the end of his stride. Both Downs and High just got a piece of it. The 1919 cards of Kenworthy, Conkwright and Seaton all are pussyfooting around in the batter's box. Dumovich is awfully bashful around the lady folk. Meet Oompa Loompas Griggs and Cox in their 1920 cards. At the opposite end of the height spectrum, Knight must have been one elongated string bean of a player. Baker was just a bit camera shy when asked to pose for his 1920 card. With an obvious penchant for pitches thrown high and tight, it is no surprise Duchalsky never made it to the majors. Brian |

Consider this....it appears as if the artist of this card drew the storm clouds in the background to coincide with Kelly's "wild" life style. Furthermore, did the same artist draw the sunset in the Cap Anson card to illustrate that he was nearing the "sunset of his career" ? <img src="http://i529.photobucket.com/albums/dd339/tz1234zaz/abn162ansonkelly.jpg" alt="[linked image]"> TED Z |
Interesting theory about the backgrounds. It also seemed like Allen & Ginter and other competitors stopped making cards after the N162 set came out, as if the N162 devastated the competetion. Seeing how beautiful these cards are, I wouldn't doubt it

Here's my RAW collection of N162 cards. Again, the first 12 cards.....and, the remaining 14 cards to complete this beautiful 1888
sportscard set of 50 subjects. This is color lithography at its best. The GOODWIN CHAMPIONS album includes all 50 subjects, and its lithography is outstanding. <img src="http://i603.photobucket.com/albums/tt113/zanted86/12starsN162bb.jpg" alt="[linked image]"> <img src="http://i603.photobucket.com/albums/tt113/zanted86/14starsN162chessbike7xx.jpg" alt="[linked image]"> TED Z |

Dixie lid premium
Thanks Mike! By the way I have never seen a Dixie lid premium without the hole punches othere than the black and white ones released in the '50s. I have always loved their color. I think they are very under valued but I suppose beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I'm only missing the Feller to complete the '37 and '38 baseball players. For some reason it sees to be very difficult to come across a nice one. I have been looking for a number of years with no success. The last one I saw on ebay was signed with a personalization. Due to that I passed on it and am now aware I shoudn't have.

Great stuff Ian......that's what this thread is all about.
Thanks for posting. TED Z |
Neat idea, thanks for starting Ted. And thanks to everyone else for sharing.
I don't necessarily consider myself a raw card collector -- when I returned to collecting baseball cards 18 months ago, I've primarily purchased graded cards simply for the security reasons when purchasing items via the internet. But the bulk of my former collection is all raw, including these that I picked up nearly 20 years ago: https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-L...52520front.jpghttps://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-S...52520front.jpghttps://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-Y...52520front.jpg Also have a 1973 Topps rookie card of Mike Schmidt that I bought from the local card shop in Teaneck NJ for $100 as a kid -- at that point it was my first real "big item" purchase, so it surely has a strong sentimental attachment. Haven't yet made a scan of it though. --S p.s. the scratches on the Mantle are on the case, not the card |

prolly get an auction fluffer to say things I won't.

whoops...I didn't understand what "raw" meant.
like ya know, like: does yer ball hang low do you swing it to the ground... does it wobble to and fro and cause awe all around ? ..and yes..it's 100% real and not even a tiny little wrinkle....stiff as the day it was born. |
...but can you throw them over your shoulder like a continental soldier?
