Glass Yankees Sign $50ppd
5 Attachment(s)
I really appreciate the responses I got and feel good to get closure that these signs may look cool, they are not vintage. I would still like to sell. A Mets home is no place for these two.
I'd take $75ppd for each and $125ppd for both. Please PM if interested and thank you again for the info. peter Original email below: I do want to sell these two glass signs since we're moving and don't want to worry about the glass but I also would like fellow collectors who may know more about them to please help. I've owned these signs since about 1993 or so. My Dad bought them in NJ or Long Island but I don't remember if it was a shop or auction. I believe, and as an antique collector my dad believed, they were old but when we sold one with Christies back around that time, they were not sure of it's authenticity and took it out of their auction. I believe they were available because they came from Grand Central Station ticket windows and it was around the time NYC was re-doing Grand Central. Grand Central has since been redone and sure enough the signs over the ticket windows look like these. Black glass with gold letters. Does anyone know how to tell if these would be old? By old I mean no later than 1950's. I think late 50s is when they stopped selling tickets to the Yankees at Grand Central but I'm not certain. I'm not looking for big money on these but wanted to make sure any buyer knew the back story. thank you for any help peter |
I'd be interested in them depending on price, but I have always been told they are reproductions. I've never seen one in person that showed any definitive signs of being original.
Once you decide how much you want for them, let me know Thanks Matt |
Peter,
I agree with Matt. I have always doubted the originality of these based on their relative fragility & how often I see them pop up. However, I too have always considered picking one up if the price were right. Regards, R.J. |
There is a vendor from NC (I think) who regularly sets up at Brimfield and sells fiesta ware and reverse painted glass signs. I'd say with near certainty that they also sell that sign. They also had Fenway Park and tongue-in-cheek law office signs. All of the signs look just like yours with gold letters on a black field.
