EBAY: 1973 Venezuelan Jim Rice final price -Wow!
http://www.ebay.com/itm/250913017499...84.m1423.l2649
I figured this would break the $100 mark, but I was surprised when it ended at nearly $400. Strong Price for a great Pre-Rookie card. |
Venezuelan
I do not collect these except to get one example for each of my related Topps sets, but did notice that when I was doing that how much of a premium the stickers carry over the cards

Adam:
I was the winning bidder on that one and was pretty satisfied with the price. I have not seen one come up for sale/auction since Rice has gotten into the Hall and have been actively searching on a daily basis. There was one that came up as part of a set which was pasted into an album but none individually. The year before Rice made the Hall, one sold on e-bay to a board member for around $160 so the expected price on this one was going to be well more than that. |
Congrats on the win, Phil. There's nothing quite as satisfying to a Venezuelan collector then finding a key star card in tip-top shape.

Thanks a lot, Adam. I used to have a Schmidt Pre-Rookie but sold that one a little while back. My main focus has now shifted over to finding a 1953-54 Luis Aparicio Jr. Venezuelan card.

I cannot believe that it's such a tough card. I've seen quite a few of them in albums over the years. That one from eBay was clearly excised from an album. I've always passed on them, as I've never had interest in the Venezuelan league stuff other than the 1967's, as they are part of the complete 1967 set.
Glad you're happy with it. |
The Rice was actually the only post-1954 card that I needed for my collection. The most modern card that I am now looking for is a 1953-54 Venezuelan League - Luis Aparicio Jr. If you think that the Rice is tough, you should try to find this one................
