Broke the unbreakable record of 60 Home Runs in a single season that the "King of Clout" - George Herman Ruth slugged during the 1927 season.

Let us pay homage to the real single season Home Run Champion, Roger Maris.

Original TYPE 1 Photos from my collection...

1) Roger Ties Babe!
2) Sept 30th. Just One More Chance.
3) 61*
4) Roger Does It! #61 A Record for the Ages

Roger's 50th anniversary of 61*

Here's a big shout out to Roger Maris, the TRUE single season HR champ!

He did it the right way, with no steroids or PED's in sight. Congrats Roger!! :)

Those are great photos. As a kid, no card was more desired than a Maris (for me, anyway), even by '64 when I started collecting - there was still an incredible mystique surrounding his record.

As an aside, I got hit in the face with a ball the other night - bounced over the fence in bp and I lost it while it was behind the fence (still should have caught the damned thing). The guy next to me caught one and it had a huge '50' on it - I can only assume that was to commemorate the record.

How do we know that Maris did not take "greenies" which are performance enhanching

You could say that about any player Mac. As long as there is no proof, any player gets the benefit of the doubt.
Speaking of greenies, in 2006 Barry Bonds tested positive for amphetamines.

Think this over the three batters that hit 60 or more home runs ,McGwire...admitted user.....Bonds tested positive for steroids, three times at Balco lab...The reason it could not be used as evidence, because Greg Anderson refused to testify. Last but not least, hit 60 or more three times....Sammy Sosa, his name was on the list of 103 players who failed a banned substance test.

For those who saw him or all those that saw videos, Roger Maris had one of the most beautiful swings you will ever see. Fluid and so smooth with a bit of an uppercut. Too bad Roger was not here to see that he and what he accomplished is more appreaciated today.

I love that shot of him sitting on the wall.

He did give it his all Doug. I would have to bet that he fell over the wall after making the catch, he looks too far gone to recover. Notice the reaction of the woman to his left.
