moral question

I'm just about to finish off a hostess set (1976) all in panels. I'm thinking I would enjoy them more as a set for cards so I could put them in individual toploads...to cut or not to cut? how much is the value premium really?

Sorry, I know it's not vintage, but I'll bet a lot of folks have similar questions on strips.

I don't think there's any question at all -- keep them the way they came -- in uncut panels!

Keep em the way they are

cardaholic 09-05-2011 07:28 PM

Keep them in panels

and build another set of the individual cards.

joeadcock 09-05-2011 08:08 PM

DO not cut them up

Keep them uncut!

Greg, just to be official, I could have never kept them the way they came because the came with TWINKIES!

vargha 09-05-2011 08:32 PM

Leave them as panels. Man, I can't believe how many Twinkies, Ding Dongs and Ho Ho's I ate as a kid, getting those cards.

Uncut

I don't know anything about this issue but even if these are plentiful & readily available as panels, I say leave them as panels.

drc 09-05-2011 09:26 PM

I would chose to keep them as panels, but don't consider it a moral or ethical question.

If this is your biggest moral dilemma, you're probably going to Heaven.

Order a box of 3 pocket pages, and put the intact panels in the pages.

If you want individual cards in toploaders, sell this set and buy ones that are already cut.

They were meant to be cut...you must help them fulfill their destiny.

Should we chop up all uncut sheets that still remain in the hobby too?

For me, if it's the entire box bottom I'd keep as is. But if its already been cut to a panel of just the three cards, then I say finish the job and cut em.

Here's another vote for DON'T CUT! :)

David W 09-06-2011 02:27 PM

just put together another set already cut up.

novakjr 09-06-2011 02:48 PM

Cutting up the panels is somewhat of a disturbing idea to me...I'd say, sell the complete panel set, and put together a set of singles. You'd probably make a few bucks in the process.

I believe the cards were on the side of the box and were only a strip of three to start with.

That made me laugh out loud.

But, my vote is that you do not cut them.

Nope, on the bottom, with info usually above and below. Most boxes were strips of three. The exceptions are the small boxes- yodels? That didn't have room for anything other than the cards, and cupcakes which had an irregular panel of 3. They also came in the cupacke and twinkie 2 packs as single cards with either a little panel above and below-cupcakes. Or a more square panel, thecard with 3 really wide borders. There are back diferences between them too.

Personally I'd leave the panels as panels, and find a nice set of singles. Like others have said you'll probably end up with a bit of extra hobby money too.

I've considered trying for a set of complete boxes, but it takes up a load of room. So I've got the whole assortment.

My vote is absolutely do not cut them up--they're like a collector car, that's only original once!!!
