September 2011 Pickups
2 Attachment(s)
A few hours early, but I'm excited to share my most recent pickup.
For years this issue has eluded me. I finally was able to add a George Gibson E105 Mello Mint to my collection. It was listed poorly on eBay, and it shared an image with two other cards. I was extremely fortunate to get it for the minimum bid. Someone penciled the American Card Catalog designation on the back in pink pencil, which the seller believed was a price. It's a beauty, and without any creases! Patrick |

Congratulations....but there's 31 days in August ;)

Leon Ames is fairly difficult to find in a decent grade. Glad to have picked this one up from Ebay buy it now. http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/2677/img099lm.jpg Very happy to have worked out a trade for this higher grade Bugs Raymond. Thanks to Frank Jennings. Cards were mailed the same day and arrived just one day apart, perfect! |
Thanks Legendary for the quick ship; an upgrade from my E101:

Thanks to Phil G. for pointing this item out to me...it's the 1913 Superior, Nebraska minor league club with Dazzy Vance. Absolutely stunning to me that two different Dazzy Vance minor league postcards show up in one year when they were previously unknown.
|
Congrats, Dan! Glad that you won it.
|
That E105 Gibson is one of my all-time favorites. There is something about the colors and image that make that card very special. Congrats on a great pick-up.

Gibson E105
Thanks Jim.
I'm thrilled to have picked it up finally. Patrick |
Nice lot of Gypsy Queens

Couple of Sox PCs. Team card postmarked October 12, 1906. Referencing Game 3 of the World Series between the Sox and the Cubs. Final score was 3-0. Walsh was the pitcher and the Cubs only got 2 hits off of him. Game 3 was held one day before on October 11th.

Thanks Andrew for the ebay BIN, I've been looking for Pops Dillon for quite a while.
|
Jason, those two postcards are AWESOME. Baby one if fantastic.
|
|
Jason, I really like those White Sox postcards!
For the heck of it, I did a Google search on the name Harry C. Moir Jr. and came up with this: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb....sar/story.html It turns out that the child pictured on the postcard was adopted by Harry C. Moir Sr. and his wife...the boy was born in 1902. Moir Sr. was the owner of the Morrison Hotel in Chicago (which included the Boston Oyster House) - the same establishment featured on ad backs of some 1097 George Hull White Sox postcards and 1908 Gringon Cubs postcards. |
Nice research, Tom. Here's the back of the Rooter PC. Boston Oyster House as you mention. So, looks like it's his boy and maybe they were giveaways from the restaurant.

Value??
I know this is a somewhat rare card, but is it worth anything in this bad of shape?? I am just trying to figure out if this card is worth my time.

Sorry, the scanner cut the bottom off (Miller, 2b. Pittsburg, Nat'l.) the front scan. I' ll get a better on up sometime.

Not exactly baseball, but cool enough for me. A Billy Sunday Tabernacle PC, used and posmarked 1914. I love the odd and end players who went on to be notable for other things...
|
A "bright" bump from a PSA 4!
|
Mark, GREAT pick ups! Congratulations.

Some nice T210's and a recent successfully crossed over T206 Cobb.

Tough E121-80
|
really nice w600!
|
Wow, that w600 is fantastic.
|
Thanks Doug and Jeff - the W600 looks awesome on the front, but has a few stickers affixed on the back - hence the SGC 10 technical grade, but I'll take it looking like that every time!
