hi,
I POSTED THIS EARLIER BUT FORGOT TO MENTION I WAS LOOKING FOR HELP ON THE SUBJECT. PLEASE DISREGARD THE FIRST POSTING can anyone shed some light on the origin of these pennants? the seller claimed they are from 1936??? or is it possible these are larger versions of the BF3 mini pennant series from 1936??? http://www.ebay.com/itm/320748885163...84.m1439.l2649 http://www.ebay.com/itm/320748882730...84.m1438.l2649 http://www.ebay.com/itm/220839751398...84.m1438.l2649 also, does anyone know what the approximate value would be for each one? thanks! good luck and deleted one thread
Well, you posted 2 threads that were the same and I deleted one. If that was the wrong one just edit your post in this one and all should be good. They looked fairly identical. Good luck in the quest!! best regards

In 1936-8 the Red Ball Sales Co., which produced the majority of the small bf3 pennants, made available large premium pennants. In return for 25 red ball gum wrappers and 15 cents you could get a large 12x30 pennant of one of the 16 major league teams. The pennants had the same design as the smaller bf3 pennants. These pennants are listed in the Standard Catalog as type 12 jumbo pennants. I have seen these sell from 100 dollars at the low end to 3 to 4 hundred at the high end.

The top picture is not a bf3 premium. The other two are. Below is a scan of most of them.

bf3
Looking again at the reds pennant above, I could well be mistaken and that could indeed be a bf3 premium. If it is, it is the first one I have ever seen. Sorry about the premature judgement.

Thanks for your input and the photos matty39.
I think its possible the reds pennant is a bf3 but there are a couple things that don't match up. First of all the size is 27 x 10 3/4" instead of 30 x 10. Also, the design is similar but not the same as the mini version. Is it possible there are different variations with these pennants??? Maybe based on which year 1936-38 it was produced? |
bf3
You are correct, that the REDS pennant doesn't match the smaller bf3. I have never seen that particular style in any bf3 and I have been collecting them for over 15 years. That is why I was doubtful it was a true bf3 premium. If the size is different from the other pennants , then I am quite sure it is not a bf3 premium.
