Melvin Ott Autograph Help...

2 Attachment(s)
I recently picked up this '34 Cards scorecard to add to my Gashouse Collection at a very cheap price. It was not sold as a Mel Ott autographed item but rather a scorecard that someone had "written" Melvin Ott on it. I really liked the scorecard as Dizzy Dean pitched a complete game shutout this particular game and it is unscored. The signature is in pencil and I would like to ERASE it if it is not the real deal. (Fake autographs make me nauseous:mad:). Not looking for value of this item but rather if you all think it "might" be authentic. I'm having a hard time finding any Full Name Melvin Ott signatures to compare to. Thanks for any help or opinions provided. Regards, Brandon

Brandon - nice pickup.. While I can't say I am an expert in Mel Ott signatures.. I don't think I'd be erasing this. I can't really say I've seen a Mel Ott autograph signed Melvin, but based on the real Mel Ott autographs I've seen, the M and O match the way he signs his name. Hopefully for your sake, others agree!

Nice Pickup

Not claiming to be an expert here, but I have scene a few Otts in my day and have not come across a "Melvin" Example... the M & Ott look pretty consistent with other authenticated examples on the market...

Congrats!

Thanks for the help

Thanks guys....it's something I was planning on keeping whether the auto was good or not but it's nice to know others think it looks pretty good. Regards, Brandon

I had heard he signed Melvin only early in his career. What year is that from?

McGwirecom's experience has been mine as well--I checked the Heritage database of all 1934 Giants team signed results (the scorecard is dated 1934 at the top), and all "Mel," no "Melvin." That being said it is very convincing looking autograph so I'm not saying it's not right, just that it's not typical for 1934.

Um, maybe this particular day, someone asked him to sign it Melvin? Its possible ya know. :)

That is a real Mel Ott signature IMHO.
