A recent pick-up that I need help with
I recently won this off of eBay for cheap and have no idea what it is. I took a chance only because it is somewhat odd and different from other baseballs I have seen.
Can anyone determine what this is (playground ball, indoor ball, or just an early baseball) and approximately what year this style was popular??? http://www.ebay.com/itm/250872542433...84.m1423.l2648 Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks Travis |

looks like a playground ball. its not an early baseball.

We used to use balls that looked like that when I worked in an old batting cage in the early 80's. The machines, balls and equipment were probably 20-30 years older than that and we had a whole shed full of similar "baseballs" and "softballs". When I asked the boss why they used these instead of read ones, he said they were cheaper, of course.

Thanks!
Thanks guys...
Dan, I thought playground or indoor balls were supposed to be quite a bit bigger than regular balls and this one is pretty much the same size... Also, when would this ball date to? |
There were indoor and playground balls made about the same size as a regulation baseball. The one that you won probably dates to the 1930s.
