August Pickup

Just started working on this set and picked up these two in my quest. Not the highest quality, but within my budget.

Very nice

Congrats on getting Mantles' first Topps Card!
Not to take the attention away from getting a great iconic card from the 50's
however, it kills me everytime I see the '52 Mantle that has "Rookie" written on the Slab or when it is referred to as Mantles' rookie card. The Bowman 51 is his rookie card not the T'52. I would be ok with it if it said First topps card. That would fine. Sorry for the rant. Its just my pet peeve. This is not directed at you either by the way. Very Nice cards and great pick ups! Enjoy them! |
Sweet Mantle!! That's a helluva way to start the set!
Anyhow, my pickups will come in later this week, but I won't get the chance to post them then, so here goes (as posted in the pre-war section): Pre-War from Bagger's Auction: http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/...oe-medwick.jpg Post-War: I received these from the winner of the Leland's Sal LaRocca collection: http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/...No_Sleeves.png (PSA Pop 6) http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/...on-Sliding.png http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/...ove_in_Air.png (PSA Pop 5) I now have 5 of the 13 Bond Bread Jackie Robinson's... ironically, I still don't have the most common of the 13 (fasc. signature). |

Perhaps I didn't articulate well enough and for that I am sorry. I was mostly complaining that "ROOKIE" is written on the slab. Kinda makes you wonder how much the major grading companies really know about our great hobby. Its just something to chew on. I was not trying to be irate.:p |
I've seen SGC graded 1952 Topps Mays cards with "Rookie" on the label also, but the ones I've seen in the newer holders (with the etched SGC logo on the back instead of the gold label) don't have it on there anymore. I'm not sure why they quit putting "Rookie" on the Mays labels, but didn't change it for the Mantle.

My pickups - bought in late July but just rec'd.

Thanks Zach for the compliment. I'm going to attempt to complete the set minus the gray back cards (131-190). My next purchase will be the Mathews. Actually before I purchased the Campos, I was going back and forth between Mathews and Campos. I couldn't decide, so my wife made the decision for me.
Nice pickup on your recent purchase. Looks like you are nearing the finish line for completion. I can't wait til I'm down to my last 17. r/ Frank Quote:

Just got this in today's mail. For being a PSA 1, the eye appeal is pretty impressive! :)

Musial RC, just came today!
|
Dan, very nice!! I was eyeing that card from DavidBVintage, but after my recent purchases, I couldn't fit it in my budget. I'm glad that you were the one to get it.
|
Thanks Shaun. I have been in 2nd place in most of my recent ebay auctions. It was nice to win one for a change!
Dan |
Really like the Musial. Looks spotless.

It only took about 7 years but finally found this alternative to the Topps/OPC Carlton Fisk Rookie Card.............

It took me a very long time to find a card of Sol White. I'll get this in a PSA slab and eventually add it to my HOF player registry set.

Nice
Doug,
Great looking cards. I must say that is one nice Mathews for the grade. That is going to be my next purchase. r/ Frank |

What about this card (52T Mantle Don't-Call-it-a-Rookie Card) keeps it getting assigned a number grade (if you don't mind me asking)?

Nothing fancy. Just an upgrade for me.

BIN pickup from Joe's Vintage. Centering is tough, but I never been the biggest stickler for centering. Joe's is def one of my favorite sellers on EBAY.

Only one of these is Pre-1980...sorry! Just picked these up recently - decided to fill in a few holes in my collection. Also added a complete 1978 Topps set.

Dan, as I told you via email. That Ford card is a beauty.
Here's my latest - one purchase from the White Plains show, and a few of the cards I received via my free PSA submission. From East Coast National (White Plains) courtesy of Rick Probstein http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/...e-robinson.jpg From my Free PSA Submission I can't say I'm very happy with how they sealed this one. http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/...e-Robinson.jpg http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/...e-robinson.jpg http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/...te-sleeves.jpg Back to the Bond Bread card: http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/...eeves-back.jpg http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/...boudreau-1.jpg http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/...trzemski-1.jpg http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/...-mccovey-1.jpg http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/...sandberg-1.jpg http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/...o-alomar-1.jpg |
