Old Judge and Gypsy Queen no mount
picked up a scrapbook with a bunch of nonsport N cards and in there are an old judge and a gypsy queen comiskey - unfortunately neither of them have the cardboard mount. is it worth getting these graded? will they get an "A" from PSA without the mount? any value to these? appreciate any info.

I'd suggest leaving them attached to the scrapbook paper. I have a couple of skinned OJs and I wish they had something attached to the back. you can cut them out just leave extra paper around the borders, don't cut too close to the card. I also don't think grading will add much value; however, they are valuable.
Here is one Leon and Scott had in their auction: http://www.b-lauctions.com/site/bid/...etauctionid=80 |
Thanks Matt, hadn't thought through the potential problem of soaking the fragile photos out of the album. The pointer to the b-l auction is also super helpful.

Yes, do not soak them... They don't soak well. Do you have a picture?

i just re-read my post and realize it may have seemed that both cards were comiskey. the old judge is a clarkson with some fancy arch trimming on top and a lovely crease to boot.
here it is in all its glory: http://i900.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/da3254f0.jpg here's the gypsy queen comiskey: http://i900.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/fc300148.jpg the album pages are not in the best shape, may be prudent to tip it onto something else? or maybe use corners and some backing with stability? i'll leave them be for now. |
i seem to also remember a poem from an old book i read once:
we wore no mattress on our chest, no cage upon our face we stood upright and played the game with courage and with grace don't remember who wrote it or if i even got it right |
FYI, both are Gypsy Queen cards. You could keep them in album or remove and re-back for safe keeping.

thanks Joe, are they N175s?
