Wheeling Stogies anything out there?

I would like to see what the board may know about items from the Wheeling Stogies Baseball team. I only know a few things about the team.

They existed from 1899-1934. We at times a part of the Tigers organization and the Yankees. The Rooney family was involved with the team both as players and management.

What I have not seen is any type cards or memorabilia.

Any pictures you guys might share would be cool. Also any other info you might have would be nice. Thanks.

I have a few items from the Wheeling cub from 1889 (letters from owner with Baseball content) but that pre-dates the the teams you are looking for. Let me know if you want scans still.

I have noticed that almost nothing ever comes up relating to the Wheeling Baseball club. I search semi-frequently since Tommy Bridges pitched a season there. I have a letter in which Bridges mentions his time there and this page, probably from a Spalding Publication or the like, that features members of the 1929 team.

Good luck in your search and if you come across anything new, especially something that relates to the 1929 season, I'd love to see it.

I grew up near Wheeling and never realized there was ever a team. I grew up seeing these images. Nothing to do with the team but it kinda drives me to find some things. As a matter of fact I remember the day I asked my dad what a stogie was.

Thanks for showing the Marsh Wheeling building and sign. My grandmother worked rolling cigars in the building in the 1920's.

I know 1933 and 1934 for sure. Not sure if there were other years.
