Honus Wagner auto's Heritage Auction
2 Attachment(s)
This post is not about the subjectivity or even pseudo-science of authentications. There are 2 centennial items in the heritage auction that have seriously different Wagner autos. Can some-one indulge me an explain how 2 autos that are supposed to be contemporaneous be so different?

That is an EXCELLENT point. wow.
|
They're both good. Sometimes Honus felt like showing off a bit.
|
Maybe he condensed it to save space? But yeah... way different.

I have a pencil piece (12 autos) from the centennial that Spence was not willing to authenticate.... whenever I see an authenticated auto from the centennial I consider it an exemplar and can't help but compare it to mine. The variations are exasperating...

Wagner definitely had some quirks when it came to signing--he signed his checks with the name "John," which was his true first name but you never seem to see it anywhere else.
In any case, thanks all for checking out the auction! |
Jonathan, I am in Dallas, are items available for viewing?
|
Official lot viewing in Dallas is Monday July 25 through Thursday July 28, then we'll be taking the show on the road to the National. If this time doesn't work we may be able to work something out, so please contact me directly by phone or email. Thanks for your interest.
