Cards that satisfy you
 

I'm always getting cards in the mail, and sometimes I see them for the first time and just think, "meh, whatever." It could be any number of things, it had a slight wrinkle that wasn't visible in the scan, or the color just isn't that great, or it just doesn't fill that little niche like I thought it would, or whatever. Sometimes, though, I get a card in hand and it just feels right. I've noticed that it isn't always on the highest technically graded cards either, it's just something about some cards that excites you and makes you want to tuck them away into the personal collection, no upgrade needed. Oftentimes it's the humblest cards that make you feel this way too, cards with genuine wear that still present well, nothing too sharp, or too off-center, just good, honest cards that make you feel that everything is right with the universe. These are the kind of cards that you would tuck under your pillow if you were a kid again, or as an adult you might tuck into your briefcase for luck. Here's three of mine that currently fit that description for me, and it would be great if you guys would post some of yours. :)

Maybe not my most valuable or significant signed T206 card, but certainly one of my most satisfying...

Every Toronto card in the C46 set is like that for me. None are incredibly rare, and none are incredibly valuable [at least not in the condition they're in in my collection ;)], but shown side-by-side, I think they just look awesome.

my t206 ed walsh and my t205 home run baker and john lush i love the baker and lush because mine have such sharp and brilliant colors especially for psa 1's, and the walsh just because it looks old and has just the right feel for me.

TexasLeaguer, I know exactly the type of cards you're talking about, and those first 3 you posted hit the mark. Being a low grade collector, I had to take the time to find examples with nice eye appeal. Some cards are so satisfying, once you cross them off the list you know you'll never have look for another example.

Wow, some good ballplayers right there Chuck! All these cards you guys are showing are great and exactly what I'm talking about.

CW i am not sure i would consider those card you posted are low grade lol but i love them all especially the mathewson portrait!!!

Here's a few that I really enjoy having each time that I look at them- regardless of condition. I have more than these that give me that feeling, but I'll just post these for now.

Some of the "aging" has something to do with it, as well as the actual artwork too.

I know what you mean; you get it and just are happy with it precisely as is. For me it is usually something obscure but rare that captures the essence of the subject as I think if it.

Mine are usually based on poses I like.....scarcity is a factor too, sometimes, since I enjoy unusual stuff...and I like this pose on the D304 so much it will be on the official Net54baseball shirts coming soon....

Picked this fine card up from a fellow Net54 member. Nope, it's not pre war. Not really into that. But, for various personal reasons, the most important card in my collection. And i've never been more satisfied with a purchase.

Most all of these fit the bill for me.

As for backs missing with the HOFers a few common ones, but the three that have eluded me(mainly due to cost) are Broad Leaf 460, Drum and Red Hindu.

Sorry, I still don't have anything but a document scanner, guys, but the two that came first to mind are the SGC Good 1910 Sepia PC796 Walter Johnson I won in the recent REA auction, and my 1907 Dietsche PSA 5 Ty Cobb Fielding Position. I tend to associate the year of the card with the player's season that year, and the Johnson represents his first big year at 25-17, with a 1.36 ERA and 313 K's. The Cobb is of course one of his tougher rookies, and represents his first batting title at .350. While the Johnson is graded only good, it appears ExMt-NMt, and was downgraded due to the most miniscule of pinholes and some faint indentations its storage in an album produced. It might have the best eye appeal of any of the Johnson PC796's.

Got to be this......when I got this card I started selling most of my pre-war collection because they just seemed to not compare to this card. This was the card I had wanted since 1983, at age 12, when I saw a picture of one (with a Famous & Barr back) in a "Baseball Cards" magazine that featured a small Ruth checklist. After school I started the quest to find one at a good price but most were in auctions (and in higher grades....I often wondered if it existed in lower grade....LOL). Bid on a couple in auctions and lost out then finally found one for sale that I liked and here it is.......finally:)

texasleaguer, this card makes me feel like a kid again...I always think about how many hands have handled this Plank (and sometimes wish I could break it out and handle personally as well :D) since it was originally packaged by Philly Caramel Co. Whatever kid or adult that originally found it in their pack must have been mesmorized by the bright colors, pose and iconic ballplayer being represented (certainly feelings I share). That's what I think about every time I look at this card...and why it definitely satisfies!

Three of my favorites.
 

Johnny Evers a with a Coupon back is one of my favorite type cards. Pat Seerey, who hit 4 Homeruns in one game has only a 1948 Leaf issue to be remembered by. Johnny Wyrostek..Note the jersey striping on the PSA5 example. I have never seen another example with that detail.

Cards That Satisfy You
 

This one does it for me. This must have been taken before a game as the stands are empty and someone is walking in the background. He has a wad of gum or something else. He has almost a distant look on his face as if lost in thought; yet he has taken a gigantic swing. I am not sure what he is looking at...it doesn't appear as if he is looking at the ball, the pitcher or anything else. I look at all the energy he expended making this swing and wonder about the context it was taken in.....unfortunately pictures capture only a moment in time.
