Lots of interesting material in this one. First, note that by the end of 1946 the designations for tobacco and caramel cards are now revised, and are the same ones used today. The #521 set is now T206, etc. But the D-cards use a system not familiar to us.
Also, the article on printing was really interesting. The author states that 19th century tobacco cards were issued in sheets of 12 or 15 cards (is that even correct?), but makes no mention of 20th century sheets, something we are still debating today. Great stuff all around. |
Man, I need $22.99 and a time machine. I wonder if the "badly damaged Plank" could be the Lionel Carter Plank.

Interesting reference to "D50" Niagara Baking. Are all the known examples in the Burdick collection?

I know of one copy of Niagara baking. It was first sold in an Old Judge auction about 10 yrs ago and I had spent my few dollars on other cards. The buyer and I spoke the day he sold it to another board member (that evening).....Always a bit late, I am. I do think there is a small stash of them somewhere as Egan counted several in his checklists.....maybe 12-15 of them. I don't know how he would have cataloged the specific players, in the set, had he not seen them. There will be another some day and when there is.....I will be at the ready :). |
