Card Collectors Bulletin Oct. 1, 1946 Whole #44

So lets try this again. My first attempt this morning was really botched so I deleted the thread.

Interesting to note that this is the first time the new ACC numbering scheme was used, for the Bulletins in hand. Previous to the 1946 Catalog there were different numbers used. Enjoy.....

He lost three friends because he published a catalog? Doesn't that seem a bit harsh?

Come on Barry, that is nothing! Leon loses that many friends in a week and he doesn't even have to contend with British collectors (not that there's anything wrong with being British). Actually, the over/under this year was set at 100 by Las Vegas. Leon must have come in under since I noticed that the National dinner is "on" this year.

By the way, thanks for posting Leon! That was a great way to spend my lunch hour! Much appreciated.

Lovely Day....

comes with the territory

Any time a venue is popular, and there are good, heated discussions and some arguments, and you get to be the "arbitrator", it is a recipe for losing friends. There are only about 2 people in the hobby I personally dislike. Both are banned from this board and one is an absolute lunatic. As for folks not liking me, I am sure it is numerous. And I am sure some of those folks that don't like me are ones which I have never even met or spoken with. I will just keep enjoying the hobby with the other folks who can put up with me.... :). I do appreciate everyone's participation and friendship on the board though. It truly makes the hobby a great place (at least for me). take care and happy collecting...

And my apologies guys....rough morning with the scans. Thanks to Tom B for letting me know they were totally hosed up until just now, as they were the same ones used previously and were a different Bulletin, except page 1. They are correct now.....regards

The section on Goodwin baseball photos is interesting. I'm assuming that's the N172s. A collection of over 1100 is just amazing. Any idea whose collection that was?

Also, it says 600+names. The big book only shows 525. Were they including different spellings as different names then?

Lew Lipset stated in his seminal encyclopedia "As late as 1964 the cartophilic society of Great Britain checklisted E90-1and itemized 117 different subjects...Bemis stands out as the last design discovered..." And yet Lionel Carter apparently had multiples as early as 1946. Interesting.

Lionel Carter ends his ad by calling himself simply "The Baseball Card Collector". Truer words were never spoken. Thanks for posting Leon.
