Goudey Library of Congress Card 1933
2 Attachment(s)
Received this card recently. A Library of Congress Copyright Card #108 of Joe Kuhel. This is from the 1933 Goudey Set.
I have seen these on this board before. Question:1)How did they get out of the Library of Congress? Some FREEDOM OF INFORMATION thing? Just kidding. Does anyone know? 2)Any idea what they are worth compared to the regular set? Of course, there is probably only one per player for that year. 3)How many card companies had to do this? If Goudey, why not them all? Where are the copies from other companies? 4)SHOW YOURS. |
Interested
I hope someone has some information on these- I'm interested in these too. The thing that bothers me about them is that the only "proof" that these are what they are purported to be is the stamp on the back of the card. The stamp could be easily replicated on any low grade Goudey etc. etc. I was hoping that perhaps there was some type of paperwork that came with yours?

No Michael, no paperwork.

A few of these were auctioned off in REA awhile back. They're copyright cards.

I bought this off of B/S/T several years ago. I would think that somewhere there's a Mel Harder card that has the number 156403 on the reverse. I'd also love to have that! |

I've had a bunch of them over the years, and just posted the last few in the buy/sell area. They are unique and that is what attracted me to them.
From what I understand Goudey (or whoever had control of Goudey) sold off all their files in '69, and that was where this came from, along with the uncut sheets that come up from time to time. http://photos.imageevent.com/griffin...ntCard.tif.jpghttp://photos.imageevent.com/griffin...everse.tif.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/griffin...egCard.tif.jpg The '34 reg cards I had came without the cards themselves, but they still make a nice companion piece for the set http://photos.imageevent.com/griffin...eProof.tif.jpg |

Thanks for the link, that definitely answers the Goudey question. Further question would be about other card sets/companies. Did they have to do the same? Did their cards get returned? Where are they? Anyone have one? If other companies did not need to do this, why? Ah, so many questions. Thanks for other members showing their similar cards. |
