bid but too low

I bid but didn't want it as much as who won it. Still need one for my type set but not sure how much I want to pay. We don't know much about them....

They don't even look like a real card set. Where are they from?

Damn I can't believe I missed this auction!

Theyre real, but very very rare, so nothing is really known about them (obviously).

They are blank back very thin stock, 1-1/2" by 2-5/8" machine cut.

I picked up the Rommel on eBay about 9 years ago for $5 from a lady who wasnt a collector (she had it pictured on a doily, lol),Its basically NRMT+/MINT.
The Hunt lot of 6 sold for $1200, and the Hornsby (lowest grade one known) now at $300.

Obviously not many have handled them, not sure who owns any of them now, I sold the Rommel years ago for a few hundred, and I know someone here or on an old message board picked up the Hunts lot.

Thats all the info known.

Guys, I'll out myself on this one. I was the winning bidder and, interestingly enough, I have concerns about the date of the cards. For some reason the sepia toning on the cards kind of concerns me, but I still bid and am still happy to have the card. I also have the Sisler, Maranville and Williams cards that are pictured in Frank's scan. These are the exact cards in the scan. They are not duplicates.

I will also be putting up cards on Net54 and eBay later, not to offset the cost of the card, but to free up additional money to pay off pending deals I have with other board members.

Any chance these cards are some kind of self-developing set like the Ray-O-Prints?

Brian Van Horn 06-11-2011 05:28 PM

I doubt it because of the consistency of the pictures.

My concern

My concern is we find an ad piece or team piece with them on it.

The paper is thin enough to be an ad piece/poster:
