Jarrod,
If you only want to open 1 pack, why not buy a pack from Steve Hart and leave the wax tray sealed? He sells them for $12 each and you would come out much better. The value in the wax tray is the fact that it is rare, not so much that the packs haven't been searched. Once you bust the wax tray, it looses it's value and the individual packs aren't worth any more than any other unopened '79 Topps pack. And not trying to bust your bubble, but if you think wax trays can't be resealed, you need to read my post in this thread... http://www.sgccard.com/boards/ubbthr...ue#Post1993078 |

David, I appreciate your advice. At this point, I really think anything can be resealed. I just have to make my best guess when checking it out that it is not. I chose to get a grocery pack because the edges have been better protected than a loose pack and should yield higher grade cards. It's not for the rarity factor, as I'm a pack opener, not a pack saver. :o I also just got a '72, '73, and '75 Topps wax pack and can't wait to break them. I got a Brooks Robinson (one of my favorites!) out of the pictured '75 Topps cello that should grade an 8, IMO. I love opening old packs, even if it's all commons. Is it smart collecting or (usually) cost effective? No. But do I enjoy it? Very much. |
Back in the day, I loved cracking old packs. I opened 65 cellos, tons of minis, 71 topps, all kinds of racks and many more, when prices were still reasonable. not any more tho, but man, I wish I could find my last few 1980 topps Mrs Butterworths 3 card cellos. Maybe I could get a Ricky or sell em, but WHERE ARE THEY? Haha
Please post youtube vids or w/e of what you get when you crack the packs. GREAT stuff. |

I actually did video some of my breaks ('75, '77, '79) so I just need to upload them. These were in the '75 (the Brooks upper left corner looks good in person) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...e/DSCF9439.jpg And this common, but with a blank back. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...e/DSCF9440.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...e/DSCF9441.jpg |
Blank Back . awesome. Yeah, I used to love the pack ripping. Can't wait for the videos and more on your pulls.
