Question about those Dover Reprint books
How many of the Dover Reprint Card books were made? Does 6 sound right?
1) HOF'ers in '77, 2) Classics in '78, 3) NL Greats in '82, 4) AL Greats in '82, 5) Boxing Cards in about '92, and 6) Mecca Double Folders in about '92. Is this considered THE six? |

I am fairly certain there are more than those you mentioned. Here are some scans of a Dover reprint book which contained 98 cards. There were CJ's, some Goudey Big Heads, T206 Wagner. In fact, there is one for sale on eBay:

More than 6, really? Thanks for the reply, Zack. The one you scanned however. is one I mentioned, the Classic from '78.
I love the old reprint sets. They haven't harmed the hobby in any way and I wish there was still enough collector interest to where more were released after the eighties/early ninties period. Why did Topps feel a need to stop their Archive sets after the '54 set? If anything, it stimulated interest in the older sets. Big time collectors would never settle for the reprint version-- reprints clearly had no negative price effect. And why no buyers guide for the reprints? I know I'd line up to buy one. |
