Mile High Auction Winnings
Just wanted to see what my fellow board members ended up with via the Mile High auction.
I acquired my first two 1910 Tip Top Pirates: http://i792.photobucket.com/albums/y.../10camnitz.jpg http://i792.photobucket.com/albums/y...ns/10hyatt.jpg As well as my first Kalamazoo Bats card...well...most of what is left of it anyway... http://i792.photobucket.com/albums/y...s/kalamzoo.jpg Plus these N173 Checklists that are new to me... http://i792.photobucket.com/albums/y...checklists.jpg And a near set in high grade of the 1963 Pirates from I.D.L. Drug Store http://i792.photobucket.com/albums/y...idlpirates.jpg On the memorabilia side, I got a nice 1954 New York Yankees team signed ball and a beautiful 1958 Milwaukee Braves team signed ball as well. Anyone pick up the Leighton Old Judge? It is a cropping variation of pose 3 in the book and if the winner wants to trade or sell it I would be interested (I forgot to bid on it).

I snagged the Herpie Harry Hooper (say 3 x fast :)) and a couple other lots.
The auction went on until 5:15AM EST. I was the lead bidder on the T3 Speaker through the entire OT period until about 4:57AM EST, when someone outbid me. I actually watched it happen (yes, I'm crazy and I was up), but decided to let it go. |
E92 Dockman Chase SGC 60
Picked this up for what I believe to be an absolute steal. Very happy.....

Thought I might've had the T210 lot, but lost out late.

Link Problem
Leon, I think your link for the Mile High Auction is incorrect in the "Vintage Links" at the top of the page. At least I get an error when I click it.
The correct address is: http://www.milehighcardco.com/ This takes you to the main page and you can go to the auction from there. Under the links you have: http://www.milehighcardcoauction.com/ This doesn't seem to work. Hope it's not just my computer that gives this error. |
thanks

Paid up more than I thought I'd have to, but I figured what the heck since tomorrow is Judgment Day...

Now that I live in Iowa, I figure I should have at least one OJ example from the three Iowan teams found in the set (Burlington Babies, Des Moines Prohibitionists, and Sioux City Cornhuskers). With only one known player/pose for the Burlington team in the OJ set, this card of Frederick Nyce was the perfect way to start it off. I like how Goodwin managed to fit "BURLINGTON" on the jersey.
http://www.milehighcardco.com/LotIma...18511a_lg.jpeg I briefly thought it would be neat to collect an Iowa player set but quickly realized some of the 1888 Des Moines cards would make this prohibitive. It is great to see some of the OJs ending up in Board member's collections. Tom Carfagno - Good price on the N173 checklists. I missed them in the auction or would have been bidding on it for the 1888 checklist. Let me know if you wouldn't mind parting with the 1888 list. |
Finally bit the bullet and picked up a '52 Topps Mantle. Thought the eye appeal and centering were plenty decent for a 3 - works for me anyway.

My first WaJo pickup for 2011. http://www.milehighcardco.com/LotDet...px?lotid=20117
Am thrilled to acquire this one, especially after being the underbidder for the Herpolsheimer WaJo in the REA auction. Val |
No cards for me, but I did pick up the Ted Williams pennant.
|
'52 Topps Mantle
Very nice Mantle, David. I think you're right on re the eye appeal--that's a card whose attractiveness far exceeds its technical grade.

I bid on 5 cards and didn't win anything. Got completely smoked on 4 and was the underbidder on a high grade 48 Leaf.
I was just reading on another site about the 69 PSA 9 Seaver that went for $7k vs. a VCP of around $1k. Stunning price... Overall, I thought prices were strong across the board. |

Nice pickup. I was the underbidder on that pennant and totally forgot about the auction the last day :). The color is fantastic. |
I got an invoice today. I thought I struck out  Better late than never...
:) I'm happy to add this one: http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/u.../18507a_lg.jpg |
Some nice cards...
David - That is the best looking Mantle RC VG card I have ever seen! Sure looks Ex-Mint to me... Don't see too many of these centered in that condition.
Bob - Nice haul of OJ's ! So many auctions this May, I am just now catching up and there have been some wind-dingers ! |
Matt that N172 Wood is sweet, would take 10/1's like that all day long.
