Old Judge Player Question...

Here is a layman queston for the OJ experts... After consulting my OJ book, I decided to defer to Net 54 and ask if there are any OJ players that played in the 20th century ? If so, are any featured on a baseball card ? Surely there is some obvious examples I have glossed over !? Thanks for your help -

JJ

Clark Griffith and Jake Beckley have T206 among other issues. Lave Cross has a T210, an Old Mill Cabinet and a few other cards (Check his bio in the OJ book). I'm sure there are many...

Disclaimer: I am not an expert

Jim O'Rourke caught one game, the pennant clinching game, for the Giants in 1904. Amos Rusie pitched one game for Cincinnati in 1901.

How about Ed Delahanty- E107.

I believe Sam Thompson...

...played a few games in 1906 as well.

Just players?

There are hybrids as players/coaches/owners:
Comiskey, Hugh Duffy, Arlie Latham, and not sure if Wilbert Robinson was in OJ?

All Good Info...

Good Info from All - Thanks ! The Beckley & Griffith T206 are glaring ones... Surely there are more, less obvious players as a few of you mentioned...

Thanks again - J

--One obscure one I recently connected to N172 is the card of 54 year old Manager Joseph Herr managing the Salt Lake PCL team on a 1919 Zeenut card.

Allegheny Card Co. has the following players in it...
Jake Beckley, Al Buckenberger, Tom Daly, Kid Gleason (also has several 1920's issues), Ned Hanlon, Bobby Lowe.

also Jimmy Ryan is included in the E107 ans his image is captured and misidentified in E254.

Fan Craze:
Lave Cross (alsso has T209, T210), Clark Griffith, Connie Mack, Jimmy McAleer, Deacon McGuire.
Jake Beckley, Hugh Duffy, Ned Hanlon, Kid Nichols,

Bill Hart was a minor league pitcher on both his OJ card and his T206 card. He played from 1885-1910.

I counted 27 Old Judge subjects in the majors during the 1900 season

The 20th Century started in 1901 though.

There are several Detroit Wolverine players who would play ball in the 20th century including three of them with the Detroit Tigers. The NL, AL Detroiters would be Deacon McGuire, Frank Scheibeck, and Sam Thompson.

McGuire had stints with Detroit in 1885, 1888, 1902, 1903, & 1912!
Scheibeck played one game for Detroit in 1888, three games in 1906
Thompson played for Detroit from 1885-1888, eight games in 1906

All three have OJs, but limited to no 20th century cards.

Other notable Wolverines who would play 20th century ball for teams other than Detroit include Dan Brouthers (2 games in 1904 with NYG) and HOF manager Ned Hanlon who played with Detroit from 1881-1888 and would then manage from 1889-1907.

I agree 100% with you on the math, Ed, but we're peeing in the wind.
