Minor League Perfect Games??? 38 and counting...
Well, as part of my autograph collection I've been working on perfect gamers, and I'm thinking about expanding to players that have thrown perfect games in the minor leagues as well. I'm having alot of trouble researching minor league perfect games though, as there seems to be no definitive list on the net. Keep in mind, I'm only talking about "9 Inning" perfect games, so none of the seven inning ones. And also only Major league affiliated minor leagues, or legit minor leagues from the old days... I know some of the old guys may be impossible to find anything of signed, but it would be fun to try...
So far I've only been able to gather information on 10 minor league "9 inning perfect games"...Ok, we're up to 38 now(still need to do some homework on a few of these though), plus a few Negro Leaguers, with more to come. Roy Castleton(8/17?/1905) Kaiser Wilhelm(7/9/1906)*unsure about length* Walter Johnson(6/9/1907) Chick Evans(7/??/1908)*unsure about length* Chester Carmichael(8/9/1910) Jake Northrop(6/14/1911) Tom Rogers(7/11/1916) Sam Lanford(8/6/1916)*unsure about length* Ben Tincup(6/6/1917)*unsure about length* Ed Cole(7/10/1935) Carl De Rose(6/26/1947) Marlin Stuart(6/37/1950) Ken Kimball(8/11(12)/1951)**both dates listed, unsure which is actual** Dick Marlowe(8/15/1952) John Herbert(6/23/1956) Dennis Ribant(7/2/1961) Wenty Ford(6/1/1967)*unsure about length* Ed Phillips(7/17/1968) Steve Hardin(4/18/1973) Marc Bombard(6/6/1975) Marty Bystrom(8/12/1978) Dave Wilhelmi(5/3/1983) Rafael Valdez(7/21/1989) Jason Robins(8/12/1994) Rick Helling(8/13/1996) Marcos Castillo(6/14/1999) Tomakazo Ohka(6/1/2000) Scott Dunn(8/3/2000) John Halama(7/7/2001) *combined*Kip Bouknight/Pat Lynch(8/8/2001) John Wasdin(4/7/2003) Bronson Arroyo(8/10/2003) Chris Coughlin(6/30/04) Keith Ramsey(9/6/2004) *combined*AJ Murray/Steve Karsay/Scott Feldman(7/28/2005) Manny Parra(6/7/2007) Guillermo Moscoso(7/5/2007) Jeanmar Gomez(5/21/2009) Negro Leaguers, not necessarily Negro League games. Dan McClellan(7/17/1903)Cuban X-Giants vs York,Pennsylvania of Tri-State Lg. Jose Mendez(7/24/1909)*10 inning game Dick Redding 1912? Exhibition against Eastern League Team Bob McClure(3/5/1925)Florida Hotel League John Donaldson(1925) Moose Jaw Optimist Tournament Any info that would add to this list would be greatly appreciated. I'll gladly update all additions to this list as it becomes available for easier reference just in case anyone else in interested in the subject. |

Why don't you start your search with the Minor League Baseball HOF? Their website is: minorleaguebaseball.com Good luck with your search! |
thank you Scott, I managed to find a few more there. A little more digging and this list will finally start to take shape.

Roy Castleton (first Mormon Major Leaguer) threw a perfect game for Youngstown of the Ohio/Penn League in 1905. I have the original newspaper article describing the game. It is the article that confirmed he was the first LDS Major Leaguer as well.
Good luck with an autograph though, I have been looking since 2000 and I know of only 1 in the hobby and its not going anywhere (not mine). Rhys Yeakley |
Thanks Rhys, I figured the autographs would be the hard(if not impossible) part. For some reason, I've kinda gotten into a bit of a research kick, and rummaging through the net for these players is keeping me sane for the moment. Although, if somebody already had a complete list, I'd be perfectly happy not researching it too.

Walter Johnson perfect game
Quote:
Walter Johnson did throw a 9 inning perfect game on June 9, 1907. This was "Johnson's 2nd consecutive no-hitter and he struck out 18 in a 11-0 Weiser rout of the Emmett Prune Pickers" according to Henry Thomas in his great book about his grandfather Walter entitled "Walter Johnson- Baseball's Big Train" from 1995. I hope this helps. |
Perfect Game
David, According to the Pioneer League web site, Jason Robbins pitched a 9 inning perfect game on 8/01/94 against Medicine Hat. (Billings won 5-1). Billings was, and is, a Cincinnatti Reds affiliate. Mike

1947 Kansas City Blue Carl DeRose Perfect game
Carl De Rose throwing the first perfect game in American Association history on June 26th 1947 for the Kansas City Blues! I actually OWN the Plaque that was presented to him for that historic performance. Not a single batter made it to first base and it was the first one in American Association History!
|
Thanks guys. Great additions. The Carl De Rose works out really good because, I believe it still is the only one in the American Association. And the Jason Robins opened up the door to find the Ken Kimball one in 1951. I believe the first in the Pioneer League.
