Im sure it was an offer ON eBay as the ending says "1 offer"

Plus the word "Rare" and (BROWN) "Hindu" should never be used together...
$2K for a "1" with paper lose... is NOT a steal IMO

+1

The offer was however "declined".

Wasn't me, I'm saving up for a Jordan rookie. ;):D

Actually it was my card. A PSA 2 just recently sold in major auction for $2,300 with creasing so I based a start off of that number. I did not expect $2,000. Fair, best offers were naturally accepted. The card actually looked much nicer in person than from the scan, had great color and was crease free with back damage. As far as "rare" I guess the term is relative as 7 Hindu back Johnson's have been graded by PSA. Not quite sure what determines rare?-less than 5, 3, 1?? The T206 Cobb Brown Hindu is not rare because it is just another Brown Hindu? Just trying to get a solid definition of "rare." Next time I guess I should say, "just a handful" , "rare- but not as rare as brown M & M's", "sorta rare but not really that rare compared to other rare things" ... whoever comes up with the best synonym, it will go in my next description on ebay.

Kawika 04-23-2011 10:32 AM

sorta rare

Howzabout "infrequently encountered"?

Mine (not for sale - already willed to Val Kehl)

"Rare" is a subjective term in real life. But in the collecting business, it can piss off a LOT of folks. Personally, I couldn't care if you described it scarce, rare, limited or impossible. Their point is a moot one. The guys watching, certainly knew the availability and value of this card.

I plan on selling a AB WoJo (hands), which there are seven of as well. I plan on describing it as "rarely offered" which may anger FEWer people.

I would say Johnson is a tough Hindu and the word rare is way over used

A lot of collectors with anger issues I guess?

Interesting discussion, has anyone really ever bid on something on ebay bc the seller described it as rare in the item description?

toledo_mudhen 04-23-2011 05:01 PM

"rare" has never enticed me to pull a trigger..... to me - a larger annoyance is NRMT when the card is not even close.... Hate wasting time looking over a listing just to discover that NRMT actually means EX (or worse)

ValKehl 04-23-2011 10:31 PM

Hi David - I promise to give your WaJo a good home when the time comes! Many thanks in advance! Mo' bettah WaJo card no can get!

I agree that "rare" is greatly overused. Another of my pet peeves is the inappropriate use of the word "unique." A red Hindu WaJo is "rare," but a brown Hindu is "reasonably scarce" or relatively scarce," IMHO.

Very desireable card however described, IMO, despite it's technical grade. Hindu backs of Cobb (PSA 4) and Johnson (PSA 5) sold for $38,000 and $8,000 respectively, in 2009. Generally the "rarer" the card, the less the price differential is through the grading scale. Personally, I think the emphasis on the more difficult backs will continue to grow and not remain static.

Rare

Rare is like beauty. It is in the eye of the beholder. For me, when it comes to T206's, its any back but SC and Piedmonts. All beautiful !!
