1898 Jack Chesbro card
1 Attachment(s)
I came across this card while searching online. Does anyone know more information about this card? It pictures a young Jack Chesbro in his minor league days.
Is this a 1 of 1? Value? (This is not mine.) Thanks, Tony |

I don't know anything about it, but it looks very similar to one of these two issues
1895 Ashman Studio Cabinets (only McGraw has been discovered so far) but more likely: 1905 Rotograph Postcards |
That's not the Rotograph Dan, looks much earlier.

by the way...
looking at your signature Tony... there's an e107 Plank in REA and Kevin Struss has a very nice w600 Mordecai for sale.

Below is from Old cardboard and seems to be the same card shown. Although it might be a unique example, the earliest card picturing Jack Chesbro was the 1897-99 Foster Studio Cabinet card. The first Major League collectible picturing Chesbro was the 1899-00 M101-1 Sporting News Supplements. Subsequently, Chesbro appeared on a very popular 1902-11 W600 Sporting Life Cabinet card. Another extremely rare, early card of Chesbro originates from the 1903 E107 Breisch Williams set. Finally, Chesbro also appeared in another tough to find set, the 1905 Rotograph Studio Company Postcard set. http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a95...ny/chesbro.jpg |
My guess is that there were most likely other Richmond players also produced at the same time. Don't know of any off-hand though.

Wow, he looks young in that portrait! Quite a bit younger looking than in the E107 bow tie pose.
