Game used Mantle bat or store model?
 

On behalf of an estate of a former groundskeeper of the Reds, Expos, and Cubs, I consigned numerous items of vintage baseball memorabilia to a sports auction house for sale. One item that we did not consign was this bat. The gentleman had stated many times that the bat had been given to him in the 1960s by someone who said Mantle had used it and broken it. Any help as to whether this bat could have been used by Mantle or whether it is a store model bat is much appreciated.

Store model bat. MM4 on knob denotes a 34 inch Mickey Mantle retail model and the "Flame Tempered" stamping also confirms it as a retail item.

I am curious as to which auction house you consigned Mr. Veal's stuff too! I would like to follow the auctions and perhaps throw a bif down on something

We consigned everything to Hunt Auctions. The prime items are: 1975 Reds WS ring, 1976 Reds WS ring, 1990 AS game ring, 1975 Reds WS Champs banner that flew over Riverfront Stadium in 1976, 1969 Nat'l Lea. AS team ball w/ Clemente, Mays, Aaron, etc.), 1969 or 1970 Pirates auto. ball w/ Clemente, numerous auto. balls from vintage period (Sandberg, B. Williams, Banks, Maddox, Jenkins, etc.), Sandberg auto. bat, 1975 and 1976 Reds WS Commerative bats, and many other items. Hunt will auction the rings and perhaps other items in its May or its July AS auction and will auction the remainder of the items in its monthly auctions. Numerous MLB baseballs on on eBay now under my seller name (judgebuck). Thanks for your interest.
