Hoarding a Certain Card or Back...
 

Just wondering how this might impact $ of certain cards. One example I see is that it seems like a seller on eBay appears to own all the '57 Lucky Penny cards (what a jerk). Another example is the '52 Mantle RC seems like 707 owns most of these that are available. There also seems to be some rare backs of T cards that one or two collectors/sellers owns a lot of them. So are these people trying to monopolize the market to their advantage so they can charge whatever $ they want?

I think there is always a '52 Mantle availible. It just seems like 707 has alot of them because he doesn't sell them very often.

I don't know if they still do but there used to be a person or family in Madison, Indiana who bought every Goudey card of Tommy Thevenow they could get their hands on. They were relatives of Thevenow and who knows how many cards they had/have.

I assume most collectors hoard one particular card because of intense interest in that card, as in example above.

I hoard certain cards. But its what I like. Has nothing to do with money just what I like. If it forces the price up then so be it:D

numerous dupes of other varieties.

There are plenty of Mantles to go around, as long as you're willing to pay. The card was double printed and is, therefore, one of the easiest 1952 hi-numbers.

I was able to finally get a 1911 Zeenut Frank Miller from a fellow 54 collector at a premium price because of hoarding of the Miller cards. If you are not the hoarder, it is no fun. :( I was also able to snare the 1911 Zeenut Lindsey card because his descendant fell asleep and missed the auction ending :p
