Name that player (Hint, it's not Joltin Joe....)

I bought this 1952 biography of Joe Dimaggio. I was pleased to get a fairly unique title (I'd never seen it before) but I think the editors got the cover photo screwed up.

Any guesses?

It looks like Ted Williams with a New York jersey on.

baseballart 02-10-2011 07:40 PM

Ted Williams is X

gashouse34 02-10-2011 07:57 PM

baseballart 02-10-2011 07:59 PM

Not Rizzuto.

First hint: he's not Italian.

Gehrig

baseballart 02-10-2011 10:02 PM

Gehrig it i!

The book cover illustration is complicated by the bad crop around his nose. Here's the same photo inside the book

Das Henrich?

slidekellyslide 02-10-2011 10:11 PM

You'd think someone doing a biography on DiMaggio would know that he hit right handed.

baseballart 02-10-2011 10:45 PM

Here's a crop of the book cover shot of Gehrig. The cropping makes me look like a Photoshop professional

Dan

Now that i've brushed up on Italian, I see the book is an instructional rather than a DiMaggio bio. Joe was thus the "author" rather than the subject of the book
