Dimaggio Chair
 

I'm looking to buy a "Dimaggio Glove Chair" that I believe came out in the
1970s. Thanks!

I once saw one of these chairs in the office of Tom Monaghan, former Tigers and Domino's Pizza founder/owner. Pretty cool piece.

I did a little research on google on the piece and it looks like a true DiMaggio Glove Chair from the 70s is quite rare. Also, I think I saw that one sold about a year or two ago for approximately $ 7,000.00.

Yeah i'd be happy to just find one...Mastro's went for 15K plus I think but it had never been sat in according to the Legendary writeup.

I think Steinbrenner had one of these in his office.

I have one of those in my basement. I bought about 11 years ago from a Ron Oser auction. Mine is really nice. I think I paid $6,500 for it. The one in Mastro's auction brought about 19K I believe in total. There are reproductions out there, but if you can afford the orginal one, I would sure try and get one of those. You could add the matching couch which is a big set of red lips call the "Marilyn". How approriate is that? I will try and snap a photo tomorrow when I am home so you can take a look. I am not interested in selling mine though. Sorry.

Yeah that sounds great. I would love to see some pictures of the chair and sofa. So did the Marilyn sofa come out in the 1970s also?

I know you say you don't want to sell but being in Topeka you're less than 2.5 hours away from me. You could have cash in hand with the chair in the bed of my truck:D At least give it a thought

HMMMM. Well I guess money does talk. I don't really want to sell, but if you are thinking Mastro money, we could work something out. I remember when I purchased from Oser, they didn't have the chair in PA, it was actually in a storage unit in Van Nuys, CA and I had to have mail boxes etc, go and get and build a shipping crate to send it. I do love it. I remember when my son who is 11 now was just a little guy he wanted so bad to get in that chair and sit but he couldn't quite get into it. One day I watched him get a running start and he made it up into the chair. He sat in it for the next two hours. I think he was afraid he woudn't be able to get back in it again and was getting the most out of the experience. LOL. It hasn't been set in much since then.

I did take some pictures of my chair. I also pulled out the original auction catalog from when I purchase the chair in 2000. I got it from a Robert Edwards Acution (not Ron Oser as I thought). Here was the write up:

"Large European designer leather chair, manfactured in Italy, is known by it trade name "Joe" (after "Joe" DiMaggio). Uniquely designed in the shape of a baseball glove, this chair measures approzimately 62" x 31" x 51". The detail of the design includes the webbing between the thumb and forefinger and the lacing along the base. An attractive (and very comfortable) decorative piece and the perfect complement to any home baseball museum. There exists a matching "Marilyn" sofa, originally marketed by the same firm which produced "Joe", which is designed in the shap of a pair of lips."

After seeing the Mastro piece, I am now concerned that mine might not be an original. Still made in Italy, and I still love it, but makes me wonder? I noticed on the Mastro piece that the stitching on the finger tips of the gloves is different than mine and the "JOE" logo is located near the pinky and not in the middle like mine is. Mastro's also says MOD. P100. Mine does not have that. The last picture shows the back of the glove. It looks like it has a hole in it, but it doesnt. Just a smudge that the camerca made it look weird. There are no holes at all. Well anyway, here are pics of mine. Thanks.

Yeah I see what you mean. If it is original it appears that at least some of the back has been replaced. The back of the pinky finger for example seems much lighter in color than the rest of the glove. Maybe that's why the stitching is different than Mastro's?? I don't know why the "Joe" is in a different place if it is original. I don't know enough about these I guess. I know I've liked them since I first saw one in auction. Wanted one since then as well.

You said you were 2.5 hours from Topeka. Where are you located?

Regarding the color of the glove, mine is the same throughout. If it looks like the pinky finger is lighter in color, that is just because of the lighting in my basement.

WEIRD BUT TRUE:
After reading this post yesterday, I had a dream last night that I walked into a warehouse and there was a wall full of these chairs.
