G&B Gum on ebay

Now that the auction's over I guess it's ok to out it. It was listed in the correct section but the seller did a terrible job of listing the card. I'm sure that they had no idea what thing was worth.

The picture provided was pretty bad but it almost looks like a Yum Yum pencil sketch of the player (Madden).

Did anyone else see the listing before it went off? It'd be hard to call on any G&B experts because those cards are pretty tough to find. Is this an uncataloged card?

I saw it and thought there was a chance it was real... until I looked at his other items and saw the fake T206's w/ blank backs with the same type of fake wear around the edges and then simply passed it by. Very little possibilty that it was anything but a fake being passed off as real.

I saw it as well. Once I saw the fake t206s (all with crappy scans including the purported gb with a crappy scan) and the nice crisp scans on the seller's new cards, I knew it was fake.

Too many red flags for me:

1) Seller is from Ohio
2) Recently bought at an auction
3) Bad scan
4) Other two cards he listed didn't sell and they had blank backs (T206 or caramel cards)
5) Does not look like seller has listed or sold any other pre-war cards recently.

The one thing I saw was a money back guarantee. I figured if the card wasn't real then you'd at least get your money back. The seller has a 100% feedback rating with 596 entries. I haven't seen any G&B reprints, probably because it was such an obscure offering of cards.

Yeah, the typical red flags were out there but looking at the card (IMO) you couldn't be sure if it wasn't real. That money back guarantee is what sold me. No, I didn't win the card. I wish I knew who did because I'd like to know if the card is real.

I guess I should have emailed the seller and asked the size of the card because the G&Bs are a bit smaller than a standard OJ.

What does Ohio have to do with anything? Is there something I missed?

A lot of reprints and fraudulent items on eBay originate from Ohio. More on the memorabilia side of things than cards. The flea markets in Ohio are known as a hotbed for, how scan I say this delicately, baseball memorabilia crap.
