Does anyone own high-grade prewar cards?
Show off your highest grade prewar card. I don't have any myself so I would like to live vicariously through other forum members. Thanks for sharing....

Grades don't get any lower than this, but it's the only one graded by PSA. It's also my favourite card!
|
I don't have anything above SGC 50 now, but my two favs have been the PSA 6.5 Factory 42 Chase Blue that Dan C now has and the Factory 42 Evers that Craig has now. The Evers was a stunner, centering kept it from being and 8 I think.
Dust off the Evers Craig, let's see it again! Bob |
Here's a few

My highest SGC and my highest PSA.

Most of my collection is more mid-grade, but I do have a high grade E93 set. Some examples:

I have a fair number of prewar 9s and 10s--particularly from the play ball sets but also goudeys, diamond stars, sporting life and T206s. DEo not know how to post on here but I have posted some 9s and 10s on my blog.

Lefty Grove R315....
Here is a 1928 R315 Lefty Grove. I believe it is an SGC 84. I also have 1934-36 Batter-Up (PSA 7) and 1941 Double Play (PSA 8) Lefty Grove cards, but no scans are provided here.

Not a traditional card, but it's as pre-war as it gets, and is as high-grade as anything I have...

So Jeremy, you picked up an N172 Werrick. Now I don't feel so bad for beating you to the one I found at the National! Congratulations!

Thanks Bruce! I think mine is just like yours best I recall (St. Paul Version), but your card has that cool reverse side! So, now I need the Louisville version :D |
These are the highest grade for me.
Wow..Those are awesome David!! I need to get all my scans evenly sized like yours as well. Actually, I need to get good scanner. :D:D

Probably not considered high grade by many here, but high grade enough for my liking.

Tony those are some good looking portraits. These may not meet the high grade level for some, but they do for me.

I picked these up, along w/ 15 other OJ's, at a yard sale in the mid-'80's. They all got nice grades, but if I recall correctly these were the only 2 8's. I wish I'd have kept scans of all of them, but I didn't---These were the last 2 I hung on to before selling.
|
Has anyone ever attempted to put together a collection of type cards (including the toughest ones), with a goal of acquiring the highest-graded examples of each? That might be a fun little project. You wouldn't necessarily place a premium on Hall of Famers, just the highest-graded cards extant.

raw...

Shown a few times before but these are raw and I would guess would grade nicely....(not sure about the envelope they came in, probably not technically high grade :))

Signed T206 Cards
Here's the highest graded signed T206 card that I've ever seen. It is originally from the Jeff Morey collection.

Re: Does anyone own high-grade prewar cards?

Speaking of Chief Meyers, this is my highest grade card and only 8. Watch out, Crandall, I am catching up. Seems that M116s show up in better condition than other cards from that era, presumably because of the way they were distributed.

High For E98!
1 Attachment(s)
1 of 1 with only 1 graded higher. Of course like most E98s the only Bender higher comes from Scott's Gang Green Set.... a beautiful set!
It is the highest graded E98 that I own. Personally, I'm not that big on high condition cards myself. They are 100 years old, and I don't mind them looking that way:) |
