Reference for Vintage Baseballs?
Does anyone know of a good reference for vintage baseballs, either print or online? The scant information I have been able to find on vintage spheres is spread over so many websites and auction catalogs that it can take hours to track down identification information for a single ball or box. Production years for Official American League or National League balls are easy enough, but try finding (quickly) information on who the faded president's signature on a Western Carolina League ball from the 50's is, let alone what the exact production years are or what the original box looked like, and you'll see what I mean. I read in a couple of older posts from maybe 6 years ago of a publication put out by Dave Bushing titled "Vintage Base Balls," but haven't had any more luck finding a copy of it than I have any other all-inclusive baseball reference guide. Anyone have any suggestions? I hate to have to keep running to the boards to post pictures of every ball that I come across begging for information if there is a good resource already available that I am not aware of. That way I could just save the really tough ones for you guys :D

Joe Philips co-wrote that book with Bushing. Here's his email. glovecollector@mac.com He was still selling them on ebay recently but none are listed currently. His seller name is bubbared.
It's a good book for general knowledge, but it doesn't cover every variation or the boxes. |
