There is no controversy as the description says, it's fake as a 3 dollar bill. Hooray for ebay....btw, I was surprised to see this card go for $3k+ in the recent Legendary/Mastro auction. I wasn't expecting it to get that high....This one is in lower condition and I have had it for a few years but got it for about half of what that Mastro one sold for.....Neat card though..

Leon,
Are you sure it is not the seldom seen sepia variation? ;)

of course

How could I forget...the ole "sepia reprint" version. How could I have not remembered? BTW, I didn't mean to say the price in the recent auction was too high, after all it is a very seldom seen piece with Wags on it.

Crock?

Looks like an ultra-rare, blue-eyed version of Wagner to me.

Kinda reminds me of the "colorized" Fro-Joys.....

3-Dollar bills are fake? Oh my!

You doubters are just engaging in racialism!

This one's coming up on the bay tomorrow. I really don't have a whole lot of interest in buying one at the moment, especially since I know absolutely nothing about it.

Just for future reference. Is this one a reprint? and how do you tell?

smokeyjoewood 01-11-2011 08:32 AM

Fake

I consigned the one Leon currently has to REA ( nice piece Leon), and always just assumed the blank backed versions were FAKE. Not saying all blank backs are fake, but if you want to be safe just avoid.

That one is absolutely fake too. How do I know? It looks like the title of this thread describes, crappola. Look at the grainy look of it, the color and the blank back, compared to a real one. It's no where close. Whoever buys it will lose their money, plain and simple. The seller has some nice caveats protecting his butt at the bottom of the listing ie... no guarantee of age. Big red flag too. Also, there is a funny listing on ebay where this seller is taken to task big time. The whole listing describes how this guy is a fraud. It's quite funny.

Very nice. Just a simple google of "acofind" and "ebay" brings up a whole bunch of mess about him, much of which seems to be on this board....Very nice indeed. I'll have to start googling the sellers, when I see something I'm not sure of from now on. Just another reason that this site is one of the most valuable tools available for any collector.

I've noticed over the years that there's a bunch of fly-by sellers that seem to sell a bunch of crap until they're found out and then just set up new accounts. Is there a thread dedicated to specifically listing all fraudulent sellers as they come and go? If not, I think we need one.

on purpose

As much as I hate fraud and scammer sellers, I am not sure a thread about them is a good thing, from a liability standpoint. This topic, and the debate about it, should really be it's own thread :). There are some new rules coming out for our board in the very near future, that might help make this type of thing a reality. The site will always run the same way, as long as I am in charge, but I need to protect my butt a little bit due to all of the threats of lawsuits thrown at me. I get them all of the time, and even though they are mostly absurd, they still don't help my digestive system. As a few lawyers that I copy on some of them, Jeff L, Peter S, Kenny C. would attest to, they aren't fun *(well, some are :))....Those fine chaps have been privy to some of the lunacy thrown my way. It comes with the territory I guess. And I am not even talking about idiot Brucii's emails.... regards

Very good point. Yeah, ya definitely gotta make sure everything's covered legally.. I guess I'll just stick to googling the sellers and see what pops up then.

Good point, I got into a mess from not doing that on a project back in 2009. I simple google search could have told me most of what I need to know Shame on me :(
