In Memory of 2010
Seeing a lot of RIP threads the last months, I got to thinking. We've lost a lot of great sports legends this year. Since the end of the year is nearing let's see items of players who passed away this year

Kawika,
Our family has the negatives (and the photo - not sure if the photo is "the" original) to that Bobby Thomson photo (the one below your 51 Bowman.) My grandfather was a huge Giants fan (and photographer!) So many stories about that October of 1951 (and about baseball in general!) |

Not a "legend" but he did go 50 - 26 for some good Brooklyn Dodger teams of the 50's. RIP Billy Loes.

Suffered from the curse of an indescript name...but quite the player for a while. I met Jim Bibby several times as he lived in my area...quite the nice guy. He signed at several charity shows I did for $50...which is to say he did it to be a nice guy. http://www.latimes.com/media/photo/2010-02/52281039.jpg |

Although it hasn't been updated since August, I did find this list:

13 former Baltimore Orioles left us in 2010.

Interesting not even a single mention of George Steinbrenner...or Bob Sheppard either.
|
.
. . . nor a mention of Ernie Harwell either. |

I'll take care of Ernie (circa 1959).

William Otis "Otey" Clark
He pitched appeared in 12 games in 1945, going 4-4 for the Red Sox with his greatest moment being beating Bob Feller in his first game back from the war. You will have to forgive me for the memorabilia pictures. He never appeared on a card. http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x16/sylbry/otey1.jpg http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x16/sylbry/otey2.jpg http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x16/sylbry/otey3.jpg http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x16/sylbry/otey4.jpg http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x...01028-1816.jpg http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x...Clarkfront.jpg http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x...yClarkrear.jpg http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x...01028-1826.jpg |
