Over-sized t206's

I recently posted a scan of a card of a t206 that I thought was some sort of printer's scrap because it was taller from top to bottom than my other full size cards. I quickly learned that it was trimmed, possibly from an over-sized card. Then a few days ago, a Joe Doyle was offered for sale on the B/S/T which was large enough that it needed a different sized PSA holder to accommodate it. I'm very interested in these larger cards. I would love to learn more about them from you guys. If this has already been talked about a lot, maybe someone could point me toward the thread? Thanks a lot.

I'm sure that it's been discussed at some point. As someone who has collected T206s for decades, and have probably flipped though 10,000 cards at some point or other, I'd say that oversized cards are reasonably common - meaning more than just occasional. Additionally, 'short' cards that were factory cut (not trimmed) are somewhat common as well.

For some reason that I cannot quite understand, I've personally observed short and tall players to exist in greater frequency on certain players than others (although admittedly this could just be 'luck of the draw').

My theory is that in 1910, quality control simply didn't care too much if a card was cut 1/16" too long or too short, they managed to find their way into packs --- so long as they still could fit.

over sized cards

Over sized cards are a card doctor's playground. That is why they are becoming less frequently seen. Many friends and I have discussed this phenomenon, even as recently as yesterday :). Personally, I love all over sized cards because they are ones that are less likely messed with. Certain caramel issues almost always have the top or bottom bigger than the other....and I mean quite a bit. If you see an E101 or E102 with both top and bottom borders that are small, I would be very skeptical. As for T206's, I will defer to others that have collected them forever. Same thing though, as far as over sized ones, no doubt there are fewer and fewer as time goes by. regards

Good point Leon!

It's true that I tend to see oversized cards less frequently (with the exception of an original raw collection).
