Mastro Auction - What happened to the price of this item ?

Last night a 1953 glendale Meats Advertising Booklet sold for $ 3000, a total hammer price of $ 3600.

Last year in the REA auction it sold for $ 23,500.

Last night's booklet appeared to be in better condition, plus it contained a few autos.

I noticed a couple Photo lots like this:

Lot #425: Mantle/Aaron 1957 News Service Photograph and 1958 Topps "World Series Foes" Card

Realized 7500 in 2006 in Mastro???

Lot #144: Babe Ruth Mid-1920s Paul Thompson Photograph - PSA DNA Authentic Type I

Realized over twice this in Heritage about a year ago.

In your example, there must not have been two to Tango. The winning bidder who won it this time around was probably the under bidder before and pleased as punch.

Just a lot of high quality lots and some fell through the cracks I guess...particularly in photos.

All it takes is 1 bidder in a thinly traded market to totally kill a price. I have even bought cards, 4 figure ones, lately for about 20%-30% of where they were 2-4 years ago. So, 10% of the price of an advertising piece doesn't totally knock me off my rocker the way it would have a few years ago. It's a crazy, mostly buyers market, right now....It seems like the market for this had 2 people last year...one got what they wanted and now the other got it. My guess is another that trades very soon won't do any better than this one did. regards

It's the "two idiot rule". If one of the idiots is not bidding the prices are lame. we have all seen things sell for way more than we expected... thats the two idiot rule. McGwire's 70th homerun ball...two idiots... Also as was said, if the other guy got one last year then he is not bidding this year.

Ever consider....?

that maybe some of the prices are a sign of some market weakness?

If you're a seller, better hope they come up with a three idiot rule real soon!
