Another reprint being sold as original

Which is worse - that a top seller ignores messages that his cards are fake, or that people are actually bidding on an obvious reprint?

Agreed

I know where you can get much better looking reprints for just $5

Leon 12-07-2010 09:43 AM

agreed

Here on Net54baseball.com you can get all of the artificially aged, erased "reprint" from card, crappy looking fakes you want. No need to buy from the "Rickster" on ebay. Hey wait a minute, maybe the Rickster got those from here? No, that would never happen in a hundred seconds.....

I'm not doubting anybody, but how do you know it's a reprint? What are the tells? I don't know a thing about CJ cards.

The boarders are too white for the condition. If you look at the ripple at the top of the Eddie Collins card, you will see some kind of paper coating that doesn't exist on originals.

Edit: I disagree about being able to buy better reprints here. Those reprints are just as ugly. (I'll admit the '33 Gehrig scared me a little, the rest are trash)

Like mentioned above, the borders are too white. The jersey should blend into the border, like the scan below.

David,

There are two other clues. First, the seller calls it a 1914 in one place and a 1915 in another. It can't be a 1915 because the front and back are oriented the same way (the crunched bottom left corner is the point of reference)--the '15s have the front and back flipped top-to-bottom. And it can't be a 1914 because you can tell from the picture that the stock is too thick--the '14s were printed on much thinner stock.

Second, the red color is off. Scroll through eBay looking at real CJs and ones ID'ed as reprints, and you'll see what I mean.

I'm not an expert on CJs by any means, but I have learned some by following this board over time.

If you look at the authentic card above, notice how the border and uniform are the exact same color and blend together, they didnt use ink for the white parts of the card, only the natural paper color.
When they design these reprints they crop the borders off then add a new white border and caption thus the borders are too white and caption is usually too bold. These are some of the easiest of all reprints to spot.

Wow thanks for the info. That would have flew past me
