Bill Crouch

I am interested in finding out if there is a baseball card out there of my dad Bill Crouch. He was a pitcher for the Brooklyn Dodgers, Philadelphia Phillies and St. Louis Cardinals between 1939-1945.
I also thought I saw a picture of my grandfather, also Bill Crouch, who pitched 1 game with the St. Louis Browns in 1910. They were the only father son duo from Delaware.
I would dearly love to have a card if one exists.

Try 1941 Goudey, card number 27 and W754.

Leon 12-03-2010 01:30 PM

not too costly either

Either of those 2 cards shouldn't be too expensive, relatively speaking, either.

There is also a '41 Goudey with a yellow background, but I don't have it.

Edit: Wow Anthony you're fast!

Mary,
There are 2 cards of Bill Crouch from 1941:
1941 R324 Goudey
1941 W754 Cardinals team Issue

- Dave

You can see what the Cardinals one looks like at:

DaveW 12-03-2010 01:38 PM

Wow, everybody was quick with that one!
I'll add 2 things:
1) your grandfather is on a 1910 T210 Series 5 Old Mill card
2) I have a sister named Mary who is married to a guy named Crouch, but
it's not you.

I have the T210-5 Crouch as John F. Crouch on my lists--I don't think it is the same guy.

There's also a 1990 Target card, depicting him as a Dodger. And he coached college baseball, I know one of his former players. The 1941 Goudey cards appear occasionally, but aren't always available. The cards were cut a bit haphazardly, it can be difficult to locate each of the 3 colors correctly cut. The name sometimes is found above the player, that's how badly miss-cut they were. The W754 can be a rascal to find, too. For some reason, in the back of my mind, I think there's something else that depicts Bill Crouch, and I can't recall it. I'll dig through some boxes and see what I find. As for the red border Old Mill card, I agree with Rhett, that isn't Bill on that card.

This isn't a card, and I don't know the source of this image, but maybe you haven't seen it. Bill Crouch (grandfather)

mare33 12-03-2010 05:54 PM

No, that's not my dad.

mare33 12-03-2010 05:55 PM

Yep, that's my grampa!

mare33 12-03-2010 05:57 PM

Thanks Frank.

That 41 Cardinals team issue is a sharp looking card!

Here's a current thread about 1941 Goudeys:

FUBAR 12-03-2010 08:39 PM

is someone willing to part with one for the lady??

Griffins 12-03-2010 08:45 PM

I've got a few ideas on the '41 Goudeys, shot an email out on her behalf. The Cards team issue shouldn't be tough either.

FrankWakefield 12-03-2010 09:58 PM

I've sent the lady my email address, I'll get a Crouch card to her, I have more than my share of them. If she emails me she will have one by Christmas.

As for you guys who're saying how easy they are to get... I've been after them for several years. Started grabbing the ones I could find after I talked with a fellow who played for him up in Ypsi... and Crouch cards aren't all that plentiful. Their prices are down not because there are a bunch of cards, but because few folks collect 41 Goudeys or the Cardinals team set.

FrankWakefield 12-03-2010 10:15 PM

Here's some Crouch stuff... I think I have a bit more, will have to look.

http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j1...rouchstuff.jpg

a signed 3x5 index card;
a Target card, an APBA game card, and the W754 Cardinals team issue;
and 3 1941 Goudey's, red, green and blue.

On a board where idiots sometimes get the headlines, good deeds are still the norm.

mare33 12-04-2010 10:25 AM

That's his signature, for sure.
mary

FrankWakefield 12-04-2010 01:49 PM

Thank you for confirming that, Mary. I've still yet to hear from you by email, I sent you my email address.

Somewhere I have a page from a paper that has a photo and short article about Bill Crouch, I think it's from the 1930s. I looked in 2 boxes today, both good candidates to have held that article, and I didn't find it. I did find some PCL scorecards I'd not seen for a while :). I'll keep looking.

Hi Mary,

Here's your grandfather's World War One draft registration card. I share the same birthday as him. Enjoy!

Jodi

Kawika 12-05-2010 10:17 PM

Belated Happy Birthday wishes, Jodi!

FrankWakefield 12-06-2010 06:50 AM

Agreed.

I didn't take that into consideration! Point taken. Will edit that part out.

mare33 12-10-2010 12:34 PM

Thank you so much Frank for sending me those 2 cards. I really appreciate it! Sent you an email also. Mary

FrankWakefield 12-10-2010 01:10 PM

You are most welcome, Mary. Let me know what your Mom thought of them.

Guys, I'm sending Mary my other 2 Goudey card of Bill Crouch. If any of you have a spare one, email her so she can get it. She has 4 children, and she'll have 3 Goudey cards. She needs one more, I think.

nolemmings 12-10-2010 04:26 PM

Nice job Frank! Can't help on this one myself, as I have none of the needed cards, but wanted to extend a doff of the hat for your efforts.

P.S. If you find any cards of my relatives, please send them along. You can PM me for my mailing address.
Sincerely,
Todd DiMaggio:D

FUBAR 12-10-2010 11:25 PM

Great job Frank ! wish i had one to send her!

mare33 12-13-2010 11:10 AM

I appreciate all the help and emails I've received re: my dad, Bill Crouch, and my grandpa, also Bill Crouch. If I can help any of you out, please let me know. I'm saving those 2 cards, Frank, to surprise my mother (101) on Christmas.
Mary
